Vitamins B12, B6 and Prostate Cancer

I recollect from Dr. Myers that vitamin B6 doesn't mix well with prostate cancer.

Apparently my vitamin B12 labs are on the low side and my general practitioner is recommending B12 supplementation.

Does anyone have any opinions on whether there might be any interactions between vitamin B12 and Prostate Cancer. One way or the other?

And if so, any recommended brands or sources for it.

Poshea has some good reasons to stay away from folate and B vitamins unless you are really really really deficient.

What about Niacin (B3)? Good/Neutral/Bad for PCa?

I was wondering the same thing about vitamin B3.

Normal B12 range is from 211 to 946 pg/ml. Prior to my PCa dx I was well below 211 and I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia and advised to take supplements. I declined the home injection kit and instead take 1000 mcg sublingually. My last B12 test was 814, well within the normal range. So I’m successfully managing my anemia. Are you suggesting I would be better off stopping the B12 supplements and become anemic again?

It would seem to be safer to target 250 than 900

I should probably cut back a bit

Pernicious is a good word in the context of B12 deficiency. It creeps up unnoticed and the damage is not usually reversible.

I like a local beer - Pernicious IPA by Wicked Weed. I wonder why they called it that? It's said that drinkers have lower B12.

My B12 was 194 pg/mL 4 years ago. Time for a retest.

It may be wise to limit supplements of both B12 and folate / folic acid to the lowest amounts, if even actually needed. (True deficiency might best be avoided, but it could be that some level of "insufficiency" might even benefit some men with PC.) Mega-dosing should be avoided. A case study here:jmedicalcasereports.biomedc...

"... consider the possible acceleration of tumor growth and/or metastasis and the development of drug resistance associated with supplement ingestion."

Another study:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... this study men with higher blood folate levels were at greater risk of high-grade (more aggressive) prostate cancer compared with men with lower folate levels."

B6, B12, folate and TMG (trimethylglycine) are involved w cysteine/methionine metabolism. This same process has shown increased pca aggression.

I started reading through your old posts and came across this one. My family doc. put me on B12 supplementation about 3 years ago when my PSA had been steady @ 6 ish for 4 years Cancer has become very aggressive in the last 2 years... My last routine blood panel was normal except for vitamin B, it was so high that he called to reduce my supplement level. Think I might just stop them all together.I stopped eating red meat about 3 years ago and that may be why my B was low.

The interconnections are amazing.

Thanks Patrick for studies
