Low T - Good, Bad, or Indifferent?

It has been a year since my last 6 month Eligard shot. PSA is undetectable as of blood test on Friday. My Testosterone is <3 as it has been for the last 6 months. Will my T recover and if it doesn't, is this a bad thing?

It depends on how well you tolerate having no T. Sometimes natural production shuts down completely. Sometimes it can be restarted with clomid or hCG. Sometimes only replacement will get it back to normal.

I am playing golf in a vart 3 days a week and riding my electric bike 3 days a week. I feel fine. Should I even worry about it?

Not if it doesn't bother you. Just get checked for bone mineral density and cardiovascular health.

Perfect! Thank you T_A.

Hello my friend, wish you great success for the next 25 years. High T and undetectable psa :-)

Some men find life unbearable without T, while others barely notice. A possible factor is your T at diagnosis, or baseline. Do you know what it was?

It’s not unusual for someone who had low T to begin with to not miss it that much, obviously. This may or may not be you.

At a year, you should be getting at least some recovery, but is never assured. I am also at a year since my last shot, only difference is mine was a 3 month shot. My T has recovered to the 300-500 range, still not the 700 I started with despite taking HCG.

I know it may never recover to that degree-

after all I am 2 1/2 years older now. I also noticed a big difference in energy ,mood, return of body hair, more muscle etc at 250 or so. 400-500 doesn’t make any additional difference that I can personally detect.

More exercise and less fat on your body helps recover T also. Most guys think they’re in far better shape than they actually are. Be honest in your assessment! Being overweight and/or unfit is bad for T recovery.

If playing golf and riding a E-bike has been the extent of your exercise all this time, then you had to have lost significant muscle. I lifted weights rigorously while on ADT and lost some anyway.

However, if I were to ‘feel fine’ having done what you have for 2 years or whatever, then I would consider myself lucky and not worry about it at all.

I am 40 lbs. overweight, body hair has not returned, muscle has not returned, energy is there when I keep moving. Bought the bike to lose the weight and will start hiking again this month.I appreciate your reply and the valuable information you provided.

in reply toMoespy

Can't hurt to do some weight lifting. Dead lifts and such. Squat lifts. I have no idea whether it will stimulate T but my wild speculation is that it might signal to your testicles to wake the heck up

in reply to

Not just that. But it can help avert osteopenia . 👏👏

in reply toMoespy

I think you’re doing well as can be . More exercise the better . Your T Might return again ? As long as the pc doesn’t . youre ok? I’ve had 3 t now over six years no balls so no natural return . Should i shoot up and risk pc killing me or will it just make me feel good again? It’s just a roll of the dice for me … IMO .

It's a sick little mind game. If the T returns then I will know where the cancer is and maybe I can zap it back into oblivion for the 4th time. I don't really feel that bad so keep the T low but keep moving!!

in reply toMoespy

I’m pulling for the pc not to return on you . ✌️

As noted, wide variation in reaction to and recovery from ADT. For whatever it's worth: 3 three month injections of Lupron (after 1 mo of Firmagon). My T, which was in the 250 range, dropped to zero. My PSA seems to have stabilized at 0.02 (post radiation). Numbers are good. But my life was awful; worse time of my life. You name the side effect, I had it in spades. And it took a yr + to begin to recover. T has returned, kinda-sorta, to about 220. Woo-hoo. But, at least, I do not feel miserable. And, yes, exercise helped a lot. Hired a trainer. But, in all honesty, still have a gut and muscle mass never recovered. I'm also 3 yrs older. So, all of which is way of saying hang in there, keep trying to do what is best for you, and I wish you well.

Even under the best of circumstances and outcomes, this ain't easy.

Good luck to you.

Hi Ed, just got home from a 2 hour bike ride. Today will be good because of that bike ride. Saturday I watched college football all day and yesterday watched golf so felt crappy due to no movement. Playing golf next 4 days in a row so I will have a good week. Need to find motivation to do something physical every day and life will be good. Thanks for your message and I hope you continue to improve and your numbers stay positive. BTW I live in Olney so probably close to you in Baltimore. All my docs are in Johns Hopkins.

Best,

Jim

As a kid in the 60’s The Orioles were my team . And Roberto Clemente was my hero then . Although a Pirate. I too was way layed by my first 18 months on adt . I felt that I ve aged in old dog years ever since . 7-1 …I liken 6 yrs of no t to being put through a meat grinder . And ADT is like Laurys meat tenderizer melting my manhood from within ! Now I live in appreciation for each laughing at my own ironies ..Initially for two years I fell into a downward spiral of self hate and suicidal ideations .How could I , the macho man ,king of my own domain fall so far ? Poor me? “ Then JESUS came to me like a stranger in the night , Praise the Lord , I saw the light”! Hank Williams Sr. Peace to the east coast . I lived there in Maryland and Virginia as a boy . 🙏✌️

Hmm... I just made this reply to another T question (concern).

"Stopped Lupron 7/20 and tapered off Z&P in January 2021. In May my T was 115 and dropped to 105 in August.

I do feel better, just continue to monitor...

Turn 73 in December."

That is another word for flatulence in a heavy German accent. Used in a sentence: His accidental and quite loud vart at the cocktail party ruined the night for the both of them.

Hey Buddy, haven’t heard from you in a while. I’m the same I guess, 0 PSA, <3 T and just waiting for something to change. Gave up on of a few of my bucket list items, MMA fighter, long distance runner and male model. Nobody wants to give me a PSMA scan because of a 0.014 ultra sensitive PSA. They claim “nothing to see here”. Hope all is well with you. Larry

Hey Bro, Started some weight training a couple months ago and T went to 30 from 3. Don't know if that was the cause for the increase but will continue and see if the T increases. PSA is still undetectable here also. All good! I had to be over 0.5 to get my PSMA at NIH. Hopefully we will never get one. I am down to 250 lbs. so the male model dream is still alive! Talk soon. Jim

Hey Jim, another 0 PSA and a <10 T level. Been doing some weight training to help with muscle loss and fatigue. Energy level seems to come and go more so than in the past. When I go shopping with my wife energy seems to be < 0. Lol. But I am getting older every day. Hope all is well with you my friend. Larry

Hey Larry, good to hear from you. I have also been doing some weight training and a stretching program.I bought a set of rubber bands with handles for working out at home. I am still undetectable but my T has increased from 6 to 30 ng/dl between December and March. I have lost some weight on Ozempic but energy level is not great. When I sit around and do nothing is really when it gets bad, but motivation is not great.

I have blood work on June 15 and hoping for another good report. Nail biting as usual.

We are in the same boat and we need to somehow keep rowing hard.

Best wishes

Hey Buddy, just checking in with you. All the same here with a undetectable PSA and less than 10 T level. Still have all those same side effects. Sometimes I feel like I’m waiting on something to go sideways. Hope your well my friend. Larry
