Great website. Had world class surgeon perform robotic surgery to remove my prostate in jan 2015. Two months later PSA showed itself and continued to double. Started taking Lupron but did not like the side effects. Tried to beat the cancer by an all natural , no meat, no sugar, no alcohol , no pasta, no junk food diet. I lost 30 lbs and felt better than ever. Unfortunately the cancer was growing and because I had not had my PSA checked for 8 months, it had skyrocketed to 77. When I was diagnosed in 2014 it was only at 4. I decided I wanted to live, so I promptly got back on Lupron , and I learned from this very site that combination therapy was getting good results . I told my oncologist of my desire to also take Zytiga and he agreed. Since June 2017 my PSA has been below (.1). I urge all to eat well , and to stay in touch with your treating doctors. This disease is no joke, but we can have a quality life by keeping in mind that life is precious and worth fighting for, even if it means that we must leave behind some things that we thought were essential . (Psalm 139:14)

Why do you still think diet can stop the beast, it had no influence on you?

Hey questionanything,

It could be the synergy between the things he is doing. The combination, the "synergistic effect", achieved by combining Lupron and Zytiga is an acknowledged fact. A healthy lifestyle is supportive of keeping cancer at bay.

Athletes have special diets for a reason. So should those of us with cancer.

I like your screen name.

Nothing wrong with a good diet

Yes thank you all for your comments. The point I wanted to make was that sometimes even a good diet is not enough, and we need the medicine that can keep us alive . Yet still as was mentioned already , diet , exercise, drug therapy, a positive mindset , caring about others beyond ourselves, are tools in our wheelhouse to stay alive and happy.

I have found that a healthy diet, daily exercise, an occasional over the counter sleeping pill, and no alcohol works best for me. I don’t always keep to it however. “ Do the best you can” is not a bad guideline…

I have been on ADT for 8 months, Casodex, and Lupron shot every 3 months. I suspect your significant side effects are from the Zytiga. Enter that drug in Wikipedia, there is a good write-up.

So you are continuing with all natural, no sugar, no meat diet?

After the strict diet failed, I decided to eat regular again. Meats ( try to get high quality), fish, I try to minimize sugar, occasional desert, drink alcohol, pasta. Essentially a well balanced healthy diet. After 6 months of denying the stuff I enjoyed did not get positive PSA results, I concluded that it was the testosterone that fueled the prostate cancer. Shut off the fuel supply with Lupron and Zytiga , and enjoy eating again( all things in moderation as the good book says). I also am keen to exercise , that is critical to taking back your life and having a sense of control over what we CAN DO, to help ourselves.

Thank you so much, got your point, healthy diet all in moderations, but not trict diet. Actually I am trying strict diet which is causing stress in itself.

Indeed! You are wise in this. Not lifestyle and natural means instead of optimal medical care. But optimal care plus all other beneficial natural means.
