How long usually after my burr hole surgery (on 28/6/21) for a sub dural hematoma before I can resume blood thinners for my A Fib?

I have A Fib, although I believe it is "mild" (only 2-3 episodes in almost two years) and was on Eliquis which was discontinued for the (chronic) sdh surgery. Head taking its time to heal, with a recurrence of areas of acute hemorrhage detected by a CT scan on 23/7/21. The sdh took six weeks to be detected though an MRI. Am I at unacceptable risk and what are my options? Thanks, Prabhu Ghate (my prostrate cancer continues to remain under remission)

You could request a continuos heart rate monitor for 15 days to determine the AF load. If you have paroxysmal AF and the episodes last less than 12 hours, I believe the risk of thromboembolism is low and you could wait until the subdural problem is resolved before restarting anticoagulants.

Dear Tango65 and Patrick, Many thanks to both of you and to WSO Peddie. This is reassuring and accords with what my doctors feel. My head is taking a long time to clear up (still get headaches on and off although not as bad as the initial one which occasioned surgery) and I am wondering how long it "normally" takes (if one can use that term). Although this is for the next step, from what Patrick says there is a possibility that I may not have to resume blood thinners at all (which seem to have facilitated the sdh) even apart from the ablation/AA occlusion options. Many thanks again, might seek your guidance again.

A-Fib has been a topic a few times. Here's one thread:

Note my response to middlejoel.

Might be worth trying taurine, with or without arginine. Perhaps you will get control without Eliquis.

Yes I've dealt with a-fib for many years and the supplements I still take for it are L-Arginine, L-Taurine, CoQ10, and maybe most importantly Magnesium. I still take these despite having had a-fib ablation surgery last year. I was on prescription meds for a-fib for many years (propafenone most recently) but the meds were failing and I wasn't keen on trying a new one. I have two siblings who had the a-fib ablation surgery prior to me and their a-fib was a lot milder than mine. I was on a blood thinner (Xarelto) for a month after the ablation surgery but am no longer on it.
