I am most fortunate with a continued undetectable PSA since April 2006. T is at 381. On diagnosis of metastatic prostate cancer in April 2004, I immediately started a six month chemo with hormone therapy clinical trial. Hitting the little bastards hard. Able to stop ADT in February 2010 and added low dose testosterone a year later.

I am a proponent of hitting hard while the tumor burden is minimal and the body strong. I am 74 1/2 today. Admittedly I know nothing about the new silver bullets used in treatment today as I never had to go there...... Stay positive.

However you have done it, you are a hero. Let's hope we all make it to NED or something close.

Wow! Good for you. You’re spreading hope!

How are you able to stop ADT after a metastatic diagnosis?

in reply to

Anomalous, my research medical oncologist simply said, “I can’t find any sign of cancer in your body.” Then he said, “Let’s stop the hormones.” Me: “Wont the cancer come back? DrA: “ I don’t think so. If i am wrong and the cancer comes back, we just re-start the injections.” Followed by, “A lot of upside..... give it a try.”

This was six years after a six month clinical trial of chemotherapy with hormone therapy. I was one of a few that had a complete response.

Congratulations! May I ask: have they written any recent articles about your case? It feels like the profession should be very interested! And that it might be of help to others.

in reply to TheTopBanana

Not that I am aware of.

Maybe you should contact a doctor at a prestigious hospital? Many of them have official e-mails. I think many would like to hear your story!

The Dean of McGovern Medical School (that’s the University of Texas Health Science Center. There were several oncology professors and researchers in the room from other medical schools. They all heard and know Dr Robert Amato’s research.

Very impressive...you were on ADT for four years, then quit cold turkey, and have been well for eleven years. Well done.

Makes me think of the potential silver bullets already out there, that may not be promulgated, for whatever reasons.
