I've been taking fenben off and on since my PC returned in April 2019 (I’ve never had metastases.). I’ve had 4 HIFUS total in Europe: beginning in 2008 - I don’t remember the exact years, but the last one was in 2015, and each one was preceded by a raised PSA and positive biopsy.
Here are my results:
Prior to Nov. 2018: generally between 0.6 and 0.9 following my last HIFU in 2015
Nov. 2018: 0.9
April 2019: 1.8
May 2019: 2.27 - urologist says PC has returned; no biopsy; Axumin and MRI scans note "anomalous" activity in the midline suggesting recurrence, no metastases seen; begin fenbendazole (4 g) 3 days on 4 days off
June 2019: 1.8 - continue FZ 4g 3on/4off
July 2019: 1.5 - continue FZ 4g 3on/4 off
September 2019 - 1.99 (anxiety level rises) - continue FZ 4g now daily
October 2019 - 1.5/Free PSA 8% (sigh of relief) - continue FZ, reduce dosage to 1g or 2g (whatever I could get), sometimes daily, sometimes M-F, sometimes every other day (essentially 3on/4off)
November 2019: 1.5/Free PSA 7% (sigh of relief II) - continue FZ, 1-2g, M-F - also finally got a DRE, doctor felt nothing, "no hard lumps," although I have only half a prostate left after 4 HIFUs - and I've read DREs have lost their cachet as an important diagnostic tool
I’m not sure of the value of testing free PSA when total PSA is below 4.0 - I’ve never read any studies or recommendations for calculating free PSA when total is below 4.0. But when I was first diagnosed, the free PSA was 6% and total was 8.8 (a one-month doubling), and my Gleason score was 4+3, later modified to 3+4.
I hope that fenben isn't one of those drugs that masks cancer by lowering PSA without actually attacking the cancer.

The mechanism of action of fenbendazole is that this drug disrupts the microtubules of mitochondria of cancer cells and thus causes death of cancer cells as now they are unable to survive due to lack of ATPs.
And as you already know that living cancer cells produce PSA and dead cancer cells can not produce PSA. Your falling PSA is because of dying cancer cells.
In my opinion its real...no masking business here.
BTW 4 grams a day is high dose...do you have any side effects from this high dose ?
My greatest fear of fenben is the possibility of masking. I know how it works (I discovered microtubules a few months ago, yet another miraculous aspect of a cell, such important functions and yet so incredibly tiny), so I've always reminded myself that it actually kills cancer cells, but anxiety is always ready to abscond with my mind.
I've had zero side effects that I know of - so upset digestion, no inflammation/fever or anything, just a mouthful of white granules that quickly dissolve in liquid.
As for the high dose - I had my liver enzymes tested a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been taking the 4g dose since some time in October when I ran out and the Amazon price skyrocketed (and some sellers said they were out of stock). These are all the liver counts I know of - all normal (and I've put my liver through hell, like recreational drugs and hep B 40+ years ago apparently from a dentist's poorly sterilized instruments).
AST 26 (ref. range 10-35)
ALT 14 (ref. range 9-46. There was no ratio noted on the results.
Yeah, Joe Tippens's blog is where I read up on fenben after finding a link on this site - too bad his fenben "group" is Facebook-required - I do not and will not ever do Facebook. I did write to the U. Oklahoma people who he said will review the results of the people who are taking fenben and report their results to his site.
Well, I have it with my zero fat Muscle Milk shake and a piece of buttered toast - I make the bread and it's got butter in it as well as sunflower, pumpkin and flax seeds, which all have oil in them, so hopefully I'm getting enough fat there. I really can't tolerate fried foods and for fat that seems like the only option for breakfasts.
I still have no idea if the fenben is actually working; all I can say is so far so good. Earlier this year the PSA was going up, now it's drifting down. If this continues, or even if the PSA stabilizes at a low level, I hope I'm safe in thinking it really is working, and I figure I'll just take it the rest of my life.
I don't think it matters much when you take it - haven't read anything about that. I take it in the morning because it's easier to remember when it becomes part of my regular supplement routine. I hadn't thought of peanut butter, possibly my favorite food for decades - every day for lunch., a high point of the day (that's not as pathetic as it sounds;-).
Great results and great information. I'm a mebendazole man as Care Onc Clinic protocol. Dunno if one is better than the other. I understand that cimitidine helps to slow down elimination of mebendazole. Unfortunately I have not sourced any yet. Cheers
Hello TFBUNDY, The brand name for cimetidine is Tagamet. I was able to but over the counter in the USA (only a few stores sell it) but you need a prescription in Canada. How did you find out about cimetidine's effect of mebendazole's clearance? Is there a paper available?
I don't know if one of this class of drugs is better than another for killing cancer. They're all anti-helmintics and work the same way to prevent cell division. I think it works on the same cell components, but in a different way, as the taxel drugs.
I guess cimetidine would slow down elimination of mebendazole like any antacid, but then wouldn't it also slow down its absorption? Ranitidine/Zantac and famotidine/Pepcid have more or less supplanted cimetidine and work the same way - maybe you can get those? From what I've read, mebendazole and other such drugs are poorly absorbed in the digestive tract, which makes it great for deworming since it's more available to attack worms. How this relates to its cancer-fighting properties I don't know. But since it depends on acid for absorption, I can't see how an antacid would help (or help absorption of any oral med).
CIMETIDINE itself has capacity to slow down cancer progression. It has some ADT like effect and one of the side effect is gynecomastia (brest enlargement) if used long term.
Yes, I've read that about cimetadine. Another interesting repurposing of antihistamines is the anti-cancer effects of those for allergies, as reported in this study. Some may have an ability to kill cancer cells directly - at lease in vitro - but their main effect seems to be in sensitizing cancer cells to chemo drugs, especially the ones that disrupt microtubules - like docetaxel in prostate cancer - and including reverting multi-drug resistance. I've never had chemo, but I guess fenben is a chemo drug the way we're using it, and it disrupts microtubules, so I switched my antihistamine from clemastine to loratadine, just in case it actually helps the fenben.
Anybody else have luck with tapeworm meds helping with advanced prostate cancer?
I am going to try a tapeworm med Vermox (Mebendazole) 100 mg daily with something oily to eat, month on, month off switch to Doxycycle antibiotic, and back to Vermox a month.
(I ordered Vermox from medicinesmexico. Arriving soon. Found a good dr at City of Hope to write the prescription for doxycycline. Cool dr. He understands I can try a tapeworm protocol for a while until I decide to schedule a SOC treatment later, either radiation or chemo.)
Fenbend from Chewy, Panacur c, is $20.00 for a box of 3, 4 gram packets, using one gram /day is enough for 4 weeks at 3 days on and four days off. The yogurt I take it
with costs more than that. Have not had no problems with it. No pinworms
On the paper in the box with Panacur sold in Europe they mention that you should avoid to take together with Panacur any milk or dairy products. Maybe you should not take it in a yogurt ?
My husband is squirting 222 mL fenben 3 days/week along with Zytiga and prednisone. Yesterday his PSA went from 13.4 (mid Oct) to 10.14.
We're not sure what is causing the drop but we like it. He usually eats one pork breakfast sausage in the morning when he takes fenben. His liver functions and other blood tests were mostly normal and he is feeling good.
Squirting? That's novel. Like dissolving it in water and squirting it into his mouth? I just dump a packet of the stuff into my mouth and wash it down, since there's no real taste, though it kind of gums up my mouth for a few seconds.
Your guy might consider adding loratadine (Claritin), even if he doesn't have hay fever. See my reply to LearnAll above.
