Radiotherapy near plate & screws.

Hi peeps

I have a fractured L2 which is causing a lot of pain they are going to do a vertebroplasty procedure and also a plate & screws just above it as I also have a curved spine. The curved spine I have had most of my life and will probably just get worse with age this will strengthen it.

My question is if I have the plate & screws put in & I develop a cancer spot near or underneath it will that stop me from been able to have more radiotherapy on that spot.

Cheers all

Probably - how can they aim the radiation without precise imaging? But ask an RO.

Hi TA Yep so true, I would need the imaging first but I guess it's still possible to have RT near the plate. I'll get the fracture doctor to check with a RO first before we go ahead with the plate & screws.

Cheers M8

I would say yes as when l had proton treatment they asked if l had any plates in my body as l have one in my arm it’s OK as treatment was far enough away — sorry for the bad news
