There aren't any good tests. PSA often follows a see-saw pattern as it relapses and remits.
Having had prostatitis around the age of 35 with difficulty in killing it I wonder what part did this play in my cancer discovered at age 59. Also, do I still have the infection as I still have the gland.
Just like Chronic Gastritis can lead to Stomach cancer...Chronic Colitis can lead to Colon Cancer, chronic bronchitis can lead to Lung cancer...chronic hepatitis can lead to Liver Cancer......Chronic prostatitis can lead to prostate cancer. There is a clear link between chronic inflammation and initiation and propagation of cancer. More and more studies are indicating this link. Not every one with chronic inflammation gets cancer.. there are many other factors which also play a role.
I was treated (pills) for prostratitis for four years prior to discovery of my Gleason 9 PC. My PSA was steadily climbing all along but doc wouldn’t do a biopsy until it went higher than 4.0. Had one at 4.7 and got the bad news. I have to wonder whether it was there all along.
My test for prostatitis was done a little differently. I was in Moldova in about 1996 and, when I was not expecting it, the doctor grabbed my member and inserted into my urethra what looked like a test-tube cleaner. Yes, it hurt for quite a while. On the other hand, they did give me an anti-fungal and I never had the problem again.
