Feet swollen

Last few days my feet have swollen quite bad, the skin is very tight and painful to touch, I'm resting as much as I can and keeping them elevated.

Is it side effects from Chemo or Lymph nodes playing up? I have my second vaccine tomorrow so I can show my Doctor.

Try soaking them in epsom salt

I have a similar condition occasionally, and take a water pill (Rx: Lasix) daily as a general preventative. What I have learned over the years of having the foot swelling is there can be many causes and that your doctor really needs to analyse your situation to properly target it. For me it is quite clear that foot swelling is my body's response to several different conditions. For instance, right now on the first hot-humid 90º+ days of this year my feet are very puffy; this happens every year. My doctor's opinion is that my systems that keep electrolytes in balance is slow in adjusting to this "new" environment. The solution for me (which seems contrary to someone on Lasix) is to super-hydrate by drinking lots of extra water. I don't understand the actual mechanism, but in my imagination it seems the extra water helps flush the extra (bad?) stuff out.

Keeping a wet towel over them and elevated.

Yikes …. The dis coloration is disturbing, along with the swelling. I have the swelling now and then, usually my doctor is worried it’s an indication that it’s caused by cardiac failures or blocked veins ( the discoloration ). I think you should show your medical crew that edema right away , just taking due precautions brother.

Also .. it’s probably a good idea to alert your doctor ahead of tomorrow, by emailing him this photo, now …today … give him the ability to react faster to that edema.

Regarding the extra water to "flush" out the extra water, my amateur understanding of physiology is that kidneys can only concentrate sodium in urine to a certain extend. It's less than the salinity of seawater, so that's why drinking seawater is bad, as it will cause a net increase in sodium that your body can't eliminate.

If part of the problem is excess sodium, then drinking plain water could conceivably help the kidneys get rid of the sodium faster, which will also get rid of the extra water being held in the body by the sodium.

Of course, water is held inside the cells by potassium, but in general a modest amount of extra water should help restore electrolyte balance. Don't go overboard, because too much water will dilute the electrolytes leading to hyponatremia which can be deadly.

Hi Zetabow. I don’t know what could be your cause but I had very swollen lower legs and feet and bad skin rash for several months but both my legs are back to normal. I think mine were caused as side effects to Lupron and Erleada. I had an antihistamine and CBD oil prescribed and continued to exercise on a bike. Fortunately, I no longer need to take any antihistamine or CBD oil although I do still exercise and am still on Lupron and Apalutamide. Best regards. Joseph.

Finished Chemo 10 days ago, which failed, PSA went down to 70 after 3rd round and climbed 105 on last blood test, Raidium223 and Zytiga also failed. Last Summer when I had Chemo I ended up in ER as left leg was swollen quite bad.

Oncologist put me on Dexamethason, my face became quite puffy and swollen, I mentioned it to him but he did seem concerned about it at all.

My husband had those same side effects. We are blaming the dex steroid! He’s now cutting the dex slowly and hoping the adrenal glands kick in

Have you slowly ramped down your steroids after chemo?

Talk to your doctor first. My husband had the same thing after chemo. We tried compression socks we bought on Amazon for runners. They are very hard to get on. It is it's own work out, but they worked and all swelling is gone. Good Luck.
