Swollen left eye very red

Husband has an undiagnosed problem with a very red inflamed eye. The eye dr wanted to rule out cancer but our MO said that would be highly unlikely that it spread to the eye or the bone around the eye. He did have tearing of the eye and droop of lower lid after chemo six rounds. Has anyone had it spread to the eye? Thoughts?

Had major problems with eyes while on full dose Xtandi and from venlafaxine and combination after 9 rounds of chemo.

He was stage 4 when diagnosed. Chemo was done as he had so many Mets. Radiation done to spine when first diagnosed. On zytiga now and psa dropping . Currently 7.5. His mo is highly regarded. I really don’t know which were the biggest mets. No mets to organs so far. Last scans in sept were ok. Pelvis, scapulars ,ribs, long bones and spine involved. Not in the skull .

Did have an infusion of zometa last week. For his bones.

My husband did have a problem with his eye. At first, they thought it was an infection and treated it, but came back. It wouldn't close completely though because they thought he had bells palsey. It turned out he had mets to the base of his skull which affected his eye, mouth, ear/hearing and facial drooping on the right side from the cancer spreading. Not to scare you, but it can affect the eye in a round about way. Charlean

My husband had a droopy eye last week, just after stopping chemo. Looked like someone punched him. Just massed every night with warm water and it went away. Now he has what looks like s sty in the other.

My husband had a similar problem with one of his eyes toward the end of his Docetaxel chemo cycle. With antibiotics it cleared up and the issue has not returned.

My husband started having left eye problems since just before diagnosis that got worse. Lots of sties - daily allergy meds helped somewhat - and most recently a broken blood vessel (subconjunctival hemorrhage). He is also getting recurring small skin sores that take forever to heal. Had a biopsy on one and nothing found. Has been referred to a dermatologist. Diagnosed 12/16 PSA 74, Gleason 4+3 (treated as 8) 3 bone mets, lymph node involvement. Lupron, casodex, 6 rounds of taxotere, started Zytiga and predinsone in 12/17. Current PSA >.06, mets undetectable. Still works and plays guitar in a rock cover band

As per the internet (eight reasons why):

1.Allergies

2.Conjunctivitis

3.Stye

4.Chalazion

5.Orbital cellulitis

6.Trauma-related injuries

7.Graves disease

8.Eye cancer

What are the signs of a more serious problem?

Call your eye doctor right away if swelling lasts longer than 24 to 48 hours and you notice any of the following:

Pain in your eye(s)

Blurry vision

Decreased vision

Seeing floaters

Sensation that something’s stuck inside your eye

Hopefully he will be better: The old joke goes "What do you say to a husband with a bruised eye?" answer "Nothing you've said enough".

My husband has had a very red left eye on and off for several months. The MO doesn't think it is cancer related, but from the posts above I'm not so sure.

My MO said it was very unlikely to be cancer.

It’s been awhile since they looked at the skull. Maybe should look.

Checked with MO and the skull is clear. Thank God. Thank you!

Pretty sure it’s from the infusion of Zometa. Rare but happens

Thanks for all of your help! I am writing this so others will know what can happen from Zometa infusion. His eye was swollen shut and very very red. To the point the eye dr said “ I don’t know what the heck that is?” On rare occasions it can cause this reaction to the eye! No more zometa for him.
