Xofigo starting soon

Good morning everyone

What has been your experiences with Xofigo. I’m currently taking Xtandi and Zoladex will add 6 treatments of Xofigo starting this week.

I appreciate your thoughts. I only have Mets in the bones, but a lot of them. PSA has remained around the .4 to .5 range for the last 6 months

It is a blessing to be able to share on this site. Hopefully they can find a cure for this disease one day.

I hope you all have a great day and stay positive.

BT

Hi Bigtex.

I am in a similar situation with lots of bone mets. I have some fear about Xofigo too, I look forward to following this thread

You should not be combining Xofigo and Xtandi outside of a clinical trial, and especially without a bone-strengthening agent. The combination can cause crippling fractures.

TA, I should have also said I’m also doing a monthly infusion of Aredia. Dr. Pilie at MD Anderson is adding the Xofigo with the Xtandi.

Hey Bigtex, I get my sixth shot on Tuesday. I get fatigue for 10-15 days after the shot so you might want to plan to take it easy on those days. Also I have a mild case of anemia from Xofigo but that goes away eventually. Adds to the fatigue though. My doc told me to social distance for the first 3-4 days because of the radiation and flush the toilet twice for the first week. I have a toilet I can use alone so that helps. I’ve had a great response to Xofigo, it really cleared/reduced a lot of tumors. Hope you have a good response and limited SEs.

Daniel thank you so much for the feedback. I sure hope to see the same response.

Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Xofigo. Had 3 mets to bones including main site, spine T7, and was fit and in good health (apart from CRPC!) at start of Xofigo treatment. A few days after first shot, I felt exhausted and sick, recovered after 3 weeks, but the cumulative effect got worse after each shot, and after the 5th, found walking difficult then impossible. PSA had risen steadily throughout. T7 had splintered, damaging spinal chord. This may have happened anyway, but Xofigo did not seem to help. In hindsight, my advice would be to notice how well or badly you react to Xofigo shots, maybe adjust amount and number of doses accordingly, and, if possible, get scans regularly to check effects of Xofigo on bone mets.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will definitely pay close attention to everything as I have the treatments. I’m sorry that it didn’t work out well for you. Hopefully your medical team has tried another option.

Good morning BigTex3, sadly we won't be able to discuss treatments with you as my dear husband passed away on February 27th, After 5 years of battle with prostate cancer, there was no longer any other treatments left to try. My very best wishes for success with your treatment plan.

I’m so sorry for your loss. July will be a year since I was diagnosed. It’s definitely a terrible disease that we are all fighting.

My husband had 3 shots of xofigo. His platelets went from 124,000 to 94,000 to 53,000 after 3rd shot. He was feeling terrible, and it was decided to not hive him the 4th shot and wait till his bone marrow recovered. Unfortunately his platelets continued to go down over the next several months until he had no more and passed away. They were not sure it was the xofigo or cancer had infiltrated the bone marrow. Everyone is different, and I hope you have success with your treatment.
