My dad had his check up all looks good thank God his pSA is still at .2 after Zytiga -lupron- prednisone -and bone med, they r doing another Axumin scan in August cause the last was last August- is it normal to get one yearly ? Also does the Zytiga reduce the mets or will they still be there- does it shrink or just prevent more just curious-

I'm not an expert but as I understand it, if the cancer is responding to Zytiga, it will both shrink and reduce growth, down to some minimum point beyond which it won't go. What that point is will be is different for different patients. Some of the tumor cells will be mostly or completely resistant to the drug and they're not going to die and go away. So far, there are no drugs for prostate cancer that have been found to kill all the tumor cells and fully cure the patient. However some patients do get good remissions from Zytiga.

Best of luck.

I was on Zytiga for a year , until my cancer stopped responding to it , I was of the understanding that it prevents or slows the spread of the cancer but does not shrink any of the existing cancer that was already there , I am stage 4 with a lot of spread so I might not be the best example , but it worked for a full year until it became resistant to hormone therapy and I had to switch to chemo , good luck .......

I have been on Lupron /Zytiga SOC for 3 yrs now. I started with a Gleason score of 9, stage 4 cancer that had metastasized in 7 areas of spine, shoulder, femur and pelvis; plus 2 lymph node spots. After 8 months a second Cat and Bone scan was done. In the words of my MO: “we have put it to sleep, the bone metastasis are scaring over, the lymph nodes tumors have reduced by half and the PSA was down to almost non detectable.

Today it is non-detectable and my last scans showed everything still as the scan mentioned above. Do I credit Zytiga or Lupron , I think it is the combination of both. We don’t know how long it will last but I feel fortunate.🍸🍸🤠

Yes he is Gleason 9 and this is reoccurrence -he has stage 4 -he was good for about 5 years with Radiation and lupron cause it wasn’t in bones- and then off lupron for a few years - but then reoccurrence and Axumin showed about 6 bone metastasis lesions -now he is on Zytiga lupron and xgeva - he has to get Axumin in august but my nerves get shot! I just hope there are many things available if that stops working! But I’m hoping he will continue toDo Well- what is your PSA - his has been now .24, .22, .20 the last few months he was on Zytiga- he is also castrate sensitive!
