Hello, I just read this:

"Talk with your healthcare provider if you have hormone-sensitive cancer like breast or prostate cancer. Melatonin can change the amount of estrogen in your body. This may worsen your condition."

Estrogen is necessary for keeping bones strong. In men with bone metastasis, melatonin is helpful in prevention of fractures and spine compression which can sometimes cause lower body paralysis.

This very recent study (Feb2021) indicates benefits of melatonin in those with bone metastasis...

I don't see anything of concern in the literature.

& there are papers such as:

"Melatonin inhibits estrogen receptor transactivation and cAMP levels in breast cancer cells"

But, skim through these:

I very recently started taking melatonin, positively influenced by Patrick. One 10mg capsule before bed. Can’t say anything about it’s effect on my cancer but I seem to be sleeping longer and more soundly. Now it’s my beagle who wakes me up in the morning rather than the other way around, the little stinker...

I to have started using Mel as an adjunct inhibitor for my persistent head neck and chest skin cancers. My wife, just recently dx’ed with metastatic BC has been using it for some time so we have double the anecdotal inferences to monitor. Being double primary with skin and PC I’m keenly hopefully this makes a difference. I’m taking 5mg before bed.

Magnesium vs Melatonin?

Anyone have insight?

in reply toCooolone

Magnesium - essential mineral. Melatonin - essential hormone. If you have sleep issues, try them both. Also, below 5mg melatonin is an antioxidant. Above that and it becomes a pro-oxidant. Most days I take 1-2 mg for sleep and antioxidant effects. But for a week each month, I take 100mg+ for pro-oxidant effects.
