It appears that Avocados will increase your testosterone. Therefore should this fruit be avoided?

If you are on a T suppressing med I doubt any food would impact the T levels an iota. I eat guacamole all the time and my last T test was < 1

Thats < 1 ng/dl

I think the degree to which "avocados will increase your testosterone" might probably apply to any number of other healthy foods that have that supposed property. Which is to say, negligible, especially if one is on ADT.

I wouldn't think eating ANY of these, in moderation, would be able to promote PC progression by the means of whatever "active ingredients" (oleuprpein? zinc?) they MIGHT have to support normal testosterone levels in healthy men.

If I had any worries regarding impacts on T, I would be far more worried about possible effects from supplements and meds than from "normal" amounts of whole foods in "normal" diets. But I assume that is what you are referring to, and not some Magic Avocado-Only Diet that promises miracles if you eat nothing but avocado for 120 days!

lewicki profile image
lewicki in reply to noahware

At the present time I am off ADT for 19 weeks. T is still less than 1 PSA is >0.1. I recalled men eating the fruit for increasing their libido. I just purchased six at Costco's and wondered if eating all of them might be to much.

noahware profile image
noahware in reply to lewicki

You know, if avocado actually increased libido to any significant degree, you would see massive displays of guacamole in every grocery store on the planet!

I'm sure there is SOMEONE who would suggest you not eat those six small pieces of fruit, but I'll bet none of those someone's are medical doctors or licensed nutritionists, let alone oncologists or urologists.

Of course, I am not a doctor and do not play one on TV, but I'll stick with my original non-professional opinion: enjoy your six avacodos, even all at once in front of the Super Bowl tonight, but do not eat six a day for the next 120 days.

[Isn't it strange that I picked 120 days as the hypothetical length of the Magic Avocado-Only Diet and that you happen to be on ADT vaca for 133 days? I will take these numbers, multiply by 2 and divide by 10, to arrive at the rounded-off numbers of 24 and 27 as a predicted score for Tom Brady's next ring, about eight hours away.]

Good math. Costco would be sold out they increased T for those who need it or want it. They are tasty.

I recall some article that avocado extract might even kill PC cells, but that was probably in a test tube rather than an actual person. I never read a bad thing about them so far as "cancer diets" go, as they are loaded with good fats and lots of fiber, vitamins and minerals.

The one reason I could think to limit them is folate, if you are trying a low-folate approach to PC. But if you are not actively trying to restrict folate intake, avocado would likely not be your main concern in that department.

lewicki profile image
lewicki in reply to noahware

If you have high homocysteine levels you would supplement with folic acid but not good for prostate cancer? My homocysteine is high and just purchased a supply of folic acid.

noahware profile image
noahware in reply to lewicki

You just went above my pay grade. Patrick (pjoshea) is the guy to ask. Everything I know about folate, I learned from his posts!

But the short version, if you have not read any of those, is that supplemental folic acid and/or B12 MIGHT contribute to PC progression in SOME men.

I do understand that restricting those might lead to higher homocysteine levels, correct? But I have not educated myself on all the ramifications of high homocysteine levels. From what I understand, it may be a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't, type of problem for some. I am fully unqualified to address that!

lewicki profile image
lewicki in reply to noahware

Good idea to see what Patrick knows. Best might be just eat all foods that contain all we need and forget the supplements.

noahware profile image
noahware in reply to lewicki

When in doubt, that seems like the best bet most times. My own experience with B12 and folic acid is that I took them after becoming anemic, on the suggestion of two doctors. At the time, my PSA was dropping WITHOUT any treatment while on a keto diet.

My next PSA test a few months later was sharply higher, but I had also quit keto and added lots more protein and calories to my diet (but not many more carbs). Simply quitting those two supplements did NOT reverse my PSA trend however, although the rate of rise may have slowed a bit.

Hey lew! My Md Nat onco told me ; no high sugar fruits or foods ,no bananas,no grapes , no oranges ... or white potatoes . I Know an old guy that went to a cancer clinic in Tiajuana 30 years ago to a cancer clinic that had him eating only unripened fruits . Yuk . He said that was tough . He was there a month and left his pc in the dust . This great man sure good have rightly got some help from above as well . He’s ticking along fine in his eighties now . Believe that you can cure yourself or that you can be cured . Keep at saving yourself . I flipped into the natural mode and I’m still here after many said that I wouldn’t. Be . Is your nat onco close by your home?I have searched for such a person with no luck. I went to Germany for LU-177 and AC-225 instead of SOC here in the states. I am a firm believer of alternative treatments but there is so many supplements it is impossible to choose. I asked three doctors ( MD's ) to give me the Cholera shot one is a supposed alternative and was refused where you can get it in a local drug store in Canada. As soon as Canada opens its doors I will go to Windsor its just the other side of the Detroit river and get the shot.

As I read here from many it seems all have there own formula.

It’s not a shot. Ducoral is oral, as the name suggests.

DUKORAL - over the counter - no 'script' required - $100.00 - keep refrigerated - 2 doses - 1 week apart .....

lewicki profile image
lewicki in reply to RonnyBaby

Buy this in Canada?

RonnyBaby profile image
RonnyBaby in reply to lewicki

YES - I did mine for the first time this year - following published articles based on a 'Swedish' (if I recall correctly) study that used a fairly large sample for statistical purposes. The time frame was a 2 year reference period and it applied to ALL categories of PCa patients.

There appears to be a response from the immune system that seems to deliver a good punch in the gut for PCa patients. What was surprising was the sample group included men at different stages of progression.

About 50% of ALL cases showed some form of positive response.

I found the complete article in T-As blog, where a link originally appeared in this forum.

I had no side effects whatsoever and haven't had a PSA test since, but I don't believe the 'claims' were about lowering PSA - it was more of a larger scale benefit - you have NOTHING to lose by trying it.

I don't know about repeating Dukoral on an ongoing basis - the 'study' didn't mention that - perhaps it might be a recommendation - I assume that this 'new / off label' result hasn't been known for more than 2 years ....

I plan on taking it on an annual basis - until I see something to the contrary ....

I hope that some follow up will happen in the future.

I showed the study to my GP - he was as surprised as I was - goes to show that there's lots of possibilities and surprises out there .....

lewicki profile image
lewicki in reply to RonnyBaby

Thanks for your response. I think i have a name of a Canada source. I will order it.

lewicki profile image
lewicki in reply to RonnyBaby

Buy it in the U.S ?

RonnyBaby profile image
RonnyBaby in reply to lewicki

It's the cholera vaccine - Dukoral is a brand name and in Canada you don't need a prescription ..... you simply ask for it behind the counter.

lewicki profile image
lewicki in reply to RonnyBaby

I think travel to Canada is stopped. I live close to Detroit and woud go their when it is open. In the meantime I wrote to a Canada drug company on line to see it they will ship it. Will let you know if it works.

RonnyBaby profile image
RonnyBaby in reply to lewicki

I'm am surprised you can't get it in the USA - could you ask for a prescription from your GP ?

It is the cholera vaccine - not too expensive - however I could be wrong about the U S, in terms of how you can access it.

IF you GOOGLE ' cholera vaccine and prostate cancer ' , you will FIND some interesting articles / reports etc ... show them to your G P and see if they would prescribe it for you - maybe your Oncologist could help you get it - IF not, you could always try to get it shipped BUT it needs to be refrigerated - so that will be a BIG problem with the travel restrictions.

Eventually, when Covid is over and travel resumes, you could grab some - take the first dose in Canada (with food typically for the first dose - most Shoppers Drug Marts ( a pharmacy chain - maintains some in inventory )) and keep the rest on ice while you go home - then, one week later, you do the second dose. You have to ask for it at the counter - but they don't give you a hard time about it - they'll likely want to give you instructions about taking it properly.

I told MY pharmacist that I was taking it for PCa and to NOT be too surprised if others started asking for it as well - I suggested that there would be others seeking it as well in the not too distant future -> hoping they would keep some in inventory.

It was added to my medical 'drug / medication 'records - which is kept by the pharmacy to set up an automatic re-order one year from now.

I hope you can gain access - it seems to hold promise for certain PCa patients - certainly worth a try -> if not now, then when the situation allows for it ....

jdm3 in reply to RonnyBaby

Different vaccine in the U.S. Vaxchora, which may or may not be similar, but is not the Dukoral vaccine used in the PCa studies.

RonnyBaby profile image
RonnyBaby in reply to jdm3

THANK you for pointing that out to me -> I guess one can't assume that all vaccines that are supposed to tackle a problem / disease are 'identical' in form of action or formulation, although that is quite apparent with the Covid 'vaccines'.

NO BAWLS a hang'n and no avocados a digest'n just BALLS IN A BOTTLE injected every other week. JUST GOT A SHOT IN THE BUTT ON FRIDAY so "T" should be 1,500+ng/dL as I type this and feeling pretty good after 81.18 mile bicycle ride Saturday and more yesterday. Gonna be in line for 2nd shot of Moderna in 6 hours.

There's this TV quote >>> "To boldly go where no man has gone before" that I have updated >>>

Very brave to inject t after Gleason 10 . My docs both MO &Nat md fear going there with me and i was only Gleason 4+4.. is it your plan to go out in a blaze ? I “CAN” understand that thinking . Many times a contrarian approach can work . I hope things go well for you in all of this . 81 miles amazes me . I couldn’t ever do that . Even prior APC . Keep rolling

Simply , No Sir . My prostate cancer specialist Dr Paraminder Sighn told me for extra calories while in i was in IMRT to eat an avocado a day .. .. adt stops t .. Sugar is a different subject ,that all naturalpathic oncologist suggest to halt .. Avacado oil is great . Go guacamole!😎

Go guacamole!
