eating Broccoli Sprouts

I just want to mention Broccoli is good at prevention and also for prostate cancer patience but I recently found out that Broccoli Sprouts has more Sulforaphane benefits: How broccoli sprouts may help reduce your cancer risk. Sulforaphane is a powerful phytochemical that fights all cancers , Broccoli Sprouts have a 100 times more Sulforaphane then regular Broccoli. I think by doing all the western medicines does work but to use high nutrient foods as part of the cancer battle. Please do the research on this vegetable. I eat Broccoli Sprouts in my salads and sometimes as a side dish for my dinner with avocados and tomatoes, which are all great for nutrients.

Thank you and God Bless

You are correct. Growing it sounds therapeutic, enjoy! 😁🌱😉

in reply toGSDF

yes, taking into account both the soaking time (12 hours) and sprouting time (3 days), allow for a total of about 3 1/2 – 5 days days to grow and harvest your broccoli sprouts. Always wash them real good, I even us ACV and water, mix in a bowl and let them stand for 10 min. so there is no bacteria ,then rinse, ACV is great to stop pathogens from entering the digestive system. there is alot of information how to grow them and how to eat them. Here is one link to check out but I say look at other information about them to get a better understanding.

I hope you to do GSDF and Blessings

Soaking time for broccoli sprouts is 2-3 hours , not 12. You risk less spouting for soaking too long.

Thank you Bob603 ,I see Broccoli sprouts at walmarts, in the vegetable area, I will also get the supplement, If there is a way to keep me in remission and not have to do radiation again, I think its great to find ways to defeat cancer cells. I also read that Broccoli Sprouts have a lot of Vit. C and Vit A also good for the body, I also eat sliced cook tomatoes because it has lycopene great to fight prostate C. it is true we all have our ways of fighting prostateC, I did the Lupron one time shot and knew it was not for me, I couldn't handle the side effects, But like I say we are all different, a friend of mine did the Lupron for 3 years and he did have side effects but not like me,and he is in remission, so I don't put it down. just we are all built different ,

Yes! I have some sprouting on the counter right now. My dad is the one with prostate cancer but I learned about Sulforaphane from this forum when he was diagnosed and started sprouting my own. Enjoy the taste and who knows maybe it’ll help me avoid the family PCa curse sometime down the line. Going to try to get him set up when I next visit.

I usually spray down sprout jars with star san sanitizer left over from my brewing days, then wash seeds and soak in hydrogen peroxide for 10-15 min or so. Rinse clean and soak for 4-8 hours, then drain and rinse twice a day for four days. Yum!

I’ve eaten broccoli most of my life. Lots of it. Chicken and broccoli for lunch as part of my strength building program

Guess what? I still got advanced prostate cancer.

By all means say it’s a good food to eat but I take issue with any claims that eating broccoli (or any other food) prevents or cures cancer

Grommi profile image
Grommi in reply toGl448

eating broccoli doesn’t have the same effect as broccoli sprouts, besides, if broccoli is stored and cooked it looses a lot of the sulforaphane

Gl448 profile image
Gl448 in reply toGrommi

Oh, so sprouting is what adds the magical PCa cure part? I stand corrected.

in reply toGl448

I feel its not magical and it not just a cure, I don't claim to be cured but in remission, and I have been in remisson for over 5 yrs and I know if cancer comes back after remission it can come with a vengeance. Cancer cells have been described as immortal because, unlike normal cells, they don't age or die easy, but instead can continue to multiply without end. so I believe it is a battle field and we have pull all stops we can do on our own and also use western medicine what ever protocol is used. Ashipong discribed it right. I don't want disagree with anybody here, I just want to pass along information that might help or work, there is no guarantee when it comes to fighting Pcancer, I still have nervous feelings when I get my PSA and praying it is still at the same point that it was last time. Thank you GI448 for your comments so I could let everyone that has read my posting about my dealings with Pcancer, its up to each individual here to follow there path of dealing PCancer

I discourage desperation driving decisions. Too many here willing to chase every little "it might help" food or supplement suggestion. Often with no proven benefit and extra expenses. Granted sprouting broccoli can't be a harm if you're interested in growing your own, but it's a disappointing aspect of this site.

Bigdo58 profile image

I have seen where they are studying individuals like this who have highly protected DNA from environmental damage. They seem to think the key to all illness is to slow the ageing process, so that we live a maximum length life about 100 or more, but live it healthy until right at the end. These individuals hold the key for the rest of us. They are effectively superhuman. I believe it will be possible to be injected for longevity with a DNA protective shot or shots within 100 years maximum. But the research and drugs need mainstream funding as our current medical system is largely built around and rewards drug companies only for treating a recognised (likely life threatening, acquired with just age realistically the cause) illness, age is not recognized as an illness.

MrG68 profile image

You know those punnets you buy in the supermarket? I eat about half of one of those a day. For me, its not a religious sacrament or anything, more like I add them to other foods. Depends on how much I decide to make.

If you freeze them, it’s breaks them down and you get more out of them. But they don’t taste as nice. Good for smoothies though.

I am taking (when my husband reminds me) broccoli sprout extract. this is a much more concentrated form. does anyone know if that has the same ingredients. i would love to do some sprouting myself because i like sprouts but it dos require more attention than we some times manage. m hubby does the cooking because i do all the building repair and provide most of the income. his refrigerator management is truly something. and it is more effort to remind him to do something than to just do it myself. that is the reason for the extract.

Kittenlover50 profile image

all I do is have a quart jar, my sprout holder came with two. I keep them in our one bathroom that has no window. I keep it covered with a bathroom hand towel. After the first soaking of 8 hours, Overnite, I empty the water and cover. Until done, about 5 days later, I rinse in the am and again in the pm. It really doesn’t involve that much

spencoid2 profile image
spencoid2 in reply toKittenlover50

we have a sprouting kit with appropriate jars and if i dig into the vast supply of seeds that came with it will probably find broccoli. problem is that i am overwhelmed with things to do with my limited energy and the hubby does not follow through. he buys everything and maybe uses it once. Yoghurt anyone. He made one bad batch

yes, broccoli sprouts are known for fighting prostate and breast cancer. In the Heidelberg clinic, patients receive this along with chemo, because they found out that patients recover more quick. It is also known that the broccoli sprouts fight not only cancer cells but also kill the cancer germ were cancer grows from. My husband takes capsules which we order from Amazon, in Heidelberg they use also capsules. I also like to mention that Tumeric is known for fighting cancer, a glas of milk with a half teaspoon of tumeric in the evening is recommended, it can be any kind of milk. This is very common in India.

A thirty year old article about another researcher chasing the cancer “Silver Bullet” in fruits and vegetables. No validated proof; not even trying to isolate the compound. It was shown, in one old study to increase the lifespan of worms. He never claims irmentions a “cancer germ” as the cause of cancers. He states that the worm study gives him hope. Doesn’t really qualify for a Nobel Prize.

There was a woman in the late nineties who burst on the online cancer scene at the time promoting (very eloquently, btw) eating Watermelon as the manic bullet. Many desperate people are tons of it, only to get diarrhea instead of remission.

Coffee enemas were all the rage after that, and whole family savings were lost by desperate patients going to Mexico to get their colons flooded with coffee.

A balanced diet, with lots of fruits and vegetables is a wise way to eat for anyone, sick or not.

No one has found the direct cause of cancers, nor a “Silver Bullet” for cancers. We do have some really good allopathic treatments for some cancers; can retard the growth of some for a period of time. That’s where we are today.

Eat your veggies, but treat your cancer.

okay, I don’t know how to say this, but in the speech I heard from a professor in Heidelberg, she was referring to the earliest stage of cancer, bevor the cell becomes a cancer cell. I don’t know if there is a name for it, sorry, I am a second language participant here.

My husband eats broccoli regularly but avoids the sprouts. We have tried to avoid anything that could set his treatment back. Broccoli and other sprouts need humid conditions to germinate. Unfortunately, so do bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria monocytogenes. This means sprouts can become contaminated, and if you eat them, you can get food poisoning with symptoms like fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. Eat with caution.

Bradblue profile image
Bradblue in reply toduncansdad

so unless you not washing your hands, letting animals near your sprouts it’s highly unlikely they could get contaminated with anything.

I should have said also that your right if your growing in soil. If you grow hydroponic no chance of contamination.

I am sure that diet and lifestyle has an impact on getting PCa and to a lesser degree helping treatment work when we have PCa. However lifestyle is complex and multifaceted not to mention the research ground is constantly shifting with specific foods.

I think it’s good to feel we have some personal control over what is just random bad luck. That in itself is helpful but having during my working life as a psychologist working with chronic illness and disability I am only too aware that for many (if not most) it can create a sense of self blame and event guilt and worry that we didn’t eat right or live right and now we are partly to blame for our bad luck. PCa aside I have been a huge critic of pushing too much responsibility onto patients when they are not equipped or in an economic or social position to manage it. And with most major illnesses the impact is marginal.

I do follow a Mediterranean diet as my wife is from that background and I have never smoked, drunk much or been a big meat eater - I hate fast food and rarely ever eat processed foods. No one in my family has had PCa I have never been over weight but I am not active as I am a disabled person all my life - and a part-time wheelchair user the last 10 years / so yes that’s a risk factor but I am not in control of that. So yes I have slightly improved some marginal diet but apart from going full vegan or vegetarian I can’t really do that much more.

So yes it’s good to try and live a more healthy lifestyle but I can’t help feeling that diet is a marginal issue unless you have a really bad diet/lifestyle- then given the cardio risks and metabolic syndrome risks of mortality it maybe will have a positive impact in OS.

Sorry for that — I guess I needed to get if off my chest and it’s a bit of a professional long term issue I have had with patients lived experience of health advice with their conditions.

Here is the study on the component that produces this benefit. BUT you have to take the 'stablized' version of Sulforaphane. There is only one labortatory in the world right now that provides this; its in France. I have taken this supplement now for 2 1/2 years. It killls PCa cells. Now we know it also nearly doubles the BCR doubling time. I think this works and its proven in studies. A lot of this stuff is not. TNX

The first post in this entire thread to actually lead this old horse to the Sulforaphane water and make me consider adding broccoli sprouts. Thanks.

I did read one article that suggested supplements that refine out other compounds from broccoli might actually not be the best idea. That’s an issue with many supplements.

Have you actually noticed measurable results from this. I think it would be almost impossible to tell since you’re a sample of one, and not in a controlled study, but curious if you saw changes in PSA doubling from before you started the supplement, and if you’re sure it’s not from other changes in treatment.

The other vegetables that contain Sulforaphane, but in smaller amounts are:

regular broccoli, cauliflower, Kale, cabbage both red and white, watercress and some varieties of Bok choy.

For us, we add some sauces to add flavor, my favorite is Braggs aminos.

Thank you for your opinion. I think you will find the broken record of questions on this site is mostly broken because of new people come in. That’s okay with me as if someone were to ask about ivermectin. The question police are here and that’s okay. But to limit a question and any question isn’t okay with me. If I can’t ask ANY question or others we must move on away from the status quo’s of this site. Questions pertaining to medical that is. Very inappropriate to ask about how to change one’s oil. But P medical should be able to ask questions even if it’s a broken record. 30k questions on PSA is absolutely fine with me as any chemical questions.

Seriously! I have had four eye surgeries (Thank you, Agent Orange and Diabetes!). Each surgery was performed at the Mass Eye and Ear Hospital. Opthamologist and Surgeons were next door in the Joslin Diabetes Clinic. Each time was billed several hundred dollars for a “Facility Fee”!

Thank you!!! I'm as fiddle as a fit.... Well I hope you're doing well. I got a new bunch of writers, picked them out of the southern border illegals. Now all I have to do is teach them English. They already know a couple of words. "Social Security" and "I hate the United States of America"..They taught me four words "Mucho Trabajo, Poco Dinero".

Thank you sir..... Shortly after I gave up posting..... my wife spoke to my shrink regarding my going around in circles and mumbling to myself. My wife told me the shrink though it would be beneficial to have them put me in an induced coma for six months. My wife asked me what I thought of that idea.... I told her "let me sleep on that".....

I'm now awake and ready!!!

Words cant express the pleasure in seeing you here.

When I first joined the forum I thought you were a moderator of some sort.

You could alway put the final word in to neutralize a post like this that has sillily dissected simple broccoli sprouts with 87 replies with your simple "2 scoops chocolate ice cream".

DIM…a supplement I took for decades…more false hopes or snake oil in my mind. I still got cancer.

Hot peppers too. They may not cure/prevent cancer for me, but they are sure fun to eat. 😉

Gl448 profile image

Thank you for acknowledging there is no cure in those suggestions. There are a couple of “wives” of PCa patients posting here claiming they’ve cured cancer through diet and juicing alone.

Not sure if they’re just selling false hope or have a more cynical hidden agenda.

Gl448 profile image
Gl448

No.

One said in here a couple of days ago that she herself had cancer and was told she’d die if she didn’t have surgery and chemo. She claims to have refused those treatments and instead opted to juice, and paint artwork to feel good

Now she claims 18 years later she is cancer free from that regimen.

It’s dangerous BS. She’s been making claims for months.

yes very easy to do yourself. The idea is to prepare a new one everyday so you always will have them ready to eat. Very quick and easy . Here’s an easy video how to do it . Just going to send to my friend who is fighting cancer . youtu.be/27HFVfDSSbk
