Doctors have ruled out brain abnormalities, inner ear problems. Besides cancer treatment, taking 20 mg of Telmisartan daily, 4/10 mg Flomax evenings. Two tabs Caltrate 600 daily, two tablets Cosamine DS daily, 5000 mg vitamin B lingual every third day, and 2 bitter almonds per day. Only started bitter almonds after cancer diagnosis.Anyone here taking bitter almonds or experiencing the symptoms which started a year into treatment and are slowly getting worse. Light headedness occurring for longer periods and now followed sometimes by frontal headaches.

So you're steadily dosing yourself with cyanide and wondering why you are having symptoms of decreased brain oxygenation?

Bitter almonds contain glycoside amygdalin, which breaks down into various compounds, including hydrogen cyanide [HCN] aka prussic acid. Sodium nitroprusside causes vasodilatation & a lowering of blood pressure which might explain your dizziness.

I would stop the almonds for a while to see if the symptoms subside. Meanwhile, do some research on the almonds & PCa - I doubt that you will find anyone who has benefited.

Best, -Patrick

Thanks for your quick response. Some Greeks believe in the bitter almonds for a number of maladies including cancer but only two or three a day. A friend of mine who’s recovered from colon cancer felt like it helped him, told me about them and still takes three a day with no adverse effects. I bought some while there a year ago. I started taking them and grew back the hair on the top of my head. The doctor said he didn’t think that two a day would have any affect. My real question,I guess, is whether the cyanide is cumulative and can be stored up. In my readings about them, I could find nothing about that. I stopped them yesterday

Telmisartan can cause lightheadedness, I take it and have this at times.

While I do not believe that amygdalin has any benefit, it's also hard for me to believe that two bitter almonds a day is enough to cause the problems you describe. Cyanide is not cumulative. It quickly binds to hemoglobin and is excreted. Have you measured your blood O2 level, particularly when you're lightheaded? Yes, amygdalin is an organic cyano compound, but so is Xtandi=enzalutamide. I frequently have lightheadedness and even some dizziness, but I'm certain it's a Lupron side effect.

Thank you so much for your reply. I check my oxygen level several times a day and it remains fairly constant, 95-97. I did not originally have these problems when I started on Lupron and Zytiga which I have been on for almost 2 years. Did your lightheadedness start right after taking the medication or after a long period of taking the medication?

I don't remember the details, but I think it took awhile (months?). I did early chemo, so lots of changes happened quickly.

Greeks warned against eating bitter almonds, apricot kernels

The Health Ministry on Friday issued a warning regarding the consumption of bitter almonds and apricot kernels following reports from the Poison Control Center at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital of a spike in cyanide poisoning cases in the past six months.

The culprits are believed to be bitter almonds and apricot kernels sold at supermarkets and health food stores that are advertised as having antioxidant properties.

The ministry warned that consuming more than 10 pieces a day can cause poisoning, alerting consumers to warning signs such as stomach ache, nausea, vomiting and shortness of breath.

The Hellenic Food Authority has been informed and is expected to take steps to have the products removed from shelves.

Apparently they did not remove the bitter almonds from the shelves as I purchased my 10 pound bag in 2019. But I was aware that 10 could be lethal. I have stopped taking them.
