After three weeks on Zytiga and prednisone I feel wiped. Is that normal? Does it get better with time?

I have been on it for over a year with a short break in March. I am very active and have been fine minus the physical effects on my body.

I've been on it for two years, soon will take a break. But, you must know, unabated Metastatic Prostate Cancer would be much worst.

Hey, just saying the reality, the meds can make us survive another day, the side effects is disturbing, but living longer is nice, I'm accepting my situation and appreciate surviving and loving my wife...

I wasn’t wiped. But my stomach and digestive system played up. After3 weeks asked my oncologist to take me off. He suggested it should settle soon. It did and I have been fine for last 30 months. Dropped to 1 tablet from 2 after 9 months.(Prednisolone only, 2 Zytiga)

Can I ask you if you eat this one tablet with food or on empty stomach. My daddy have similar problem as you had. Unfortunately his dr does not want to reduce dosage. We think about our possibilities. Thank you a lot for your response.

I take 2 Zytiga as soon as I awake. Then I go for a 30 min walk. Check emails etc then make breakfast and have Prednisolone no sooner than 1 hr. After Zytiga.

Thank you a lot. So your two tablets mean the full dosage 1000 mg or you take only 500 mg a day devided into two tablets. Iam a little bit confused.

I take four tabs every morning (1000mg) wait an hour and then 5mg of prednisone with breakfast. Stomach has been okay. Hot flashes and sudden fatigue are my complaints. So far blood work is all good.

I would say yes, it does get better. I was on Zytiga for 3 1/2 years. I didn't have any real problems but the fatigue was one at the beginning. Try some exercise and fight through the fatigue.

Hi, I have been on Zytiga for 5 years. My PSA was 341 , now it’s 0.1 and has been for over a year.

When I first took it things were a bit different ( can’t say what specifically but just felt a bit wired) but I was so concerned about prostate cancer I would have done anything to slow it.

I get hot flushes and suddenly get tired but the latter is only after lots of exercise. I run every day and this year I will have run over 2,500 miles, I ran 30 miles yesterday and feel tired today but I will still run later.

Bigger concern with Zytiga is liver damage so if that is behaving early on then hopefully the drug will do wonders like it has for me.

Take care

Awesome. Loved to run all my life. Much limit now due to radiation nerve damage in pelvis. Hoping it is temporary. Do you run roads or trails?

I k is I am lucky I can still do stuff . If I am running 6 Mike’s or less it’s probably road from my house but any more it’s trails . I run /walk if it’s long so yesterday did 30 miles and walked most of it but still averaged nearly 4mph and it was wet, hilly and muddy all day . Today ran 4 miles trail and hiked 4 miles hills. I believe that the faster your blood pumps the more your natural filters get rid of the rubbish so anything that makes your body work a bit harder is good . When I have had leg issues in the past I have swam loads using a pull buoy between my legs so it’s arms only , really hard work but amazing for a heart work out ! Take care

My soccer days are over due to knee and ankle injuries but I can still run some. Been exercising my whole life and continue to do so but the fatigue won't diminish. Does it decrease with time?

I can’t answer that because we get older and therefore slower anyway ! Too many people jump in the “it’s prostate cancers fault “ bandwagon for everything , not saying that it has not changed my life but we have to make the most of the cards dealt don’t we ? I am slower and find some things harder but I am so much fitter , it’s amazing how running every day makes you stronger !

Dont chalk pains to “getting old.” I did and 2-3 yrs later discovered thoracic problems due to an 11,000 psa metastatic prostate cancer i was using those salon pas patches they masked the pain if it’s new pain get it checked

not disagreeing with you at all but we were taking fatigue and all I said was sometimes we blame pca for everything so be broad in thought process . 3 years on from my last post on this thread I am still running every day and getting fitter . I think exercise helps you know how your body feels as changes happen all the time , it’s prolonged change that is more of a concern rather than a niggle . The more I train the less fatigue I get but do sleep better !

Been on it for 2 weeks and no side effects, 4 tabs a day, the prednisone does give me energy but have to watch weight gain, have gained 20 pounds in 3 years that is not bad for my height. Also makes me hungry so eating more veggies.

You must be overeating? Think about it. See your cancer docs nutritionist

I've been on this treatment for three years, apart from fatigue, which is nominal, I am very active and the PSA has continued to fall.

Don't give up on it, there are side effects but the advise here is good, exercise, get a positive mind set, ignore the other issues, you are alive and now have a future.

This year I have replumbed the central heating, put in a new wood stove and now I am building a bathroom, when I was diagnosed with this and given other treatments I could barely function.

Hang on in there and good luck.

Scooby, are you having a jab too ? I did find that reducing the time period from 6 months to 3 months helped, it's not such a whack of chemicals in the body at one hit.

It’s “normal” for me, unfortunately. But blood sugar management (no meds, just eating with awareness), exercise, and a scheduled nap do help! Good luck!

It is definitely a life changing situation. Im on it three years now and I'm not the same man I was . The key has been stated by all of the Brothers here stay active, be positive Cancer hates that. My side effects are numerous but at this point tolerable. Leo

I have been on both for one year now, as well as Eligard injections. PSA has dropped from 308 to 0.008. Testosterone is at 0.4. Brain fog, fatigue, mood swings and night time hot flashes continue to be the only issues. Sucks but if this is the price I have to pay to remain pain free and wake up every morning, then I will gladly pay it.
