High Dose Melatonin

I have been on 20 mgs per night for 10 years .Now upped it to 60 mgs x 4 times a day .This to offset Docetaxel for first time and result is no side affects from the Chemo .Will be doing scans in two weeks to see if metastasis has slowed ,currently in bone but no soft tissue involvement .

Great news! Where did you get the idea that high dose melatonin reduces the side affects of chemo? Isn’t it making you sleepy all day too? Are you also taking for potential curative affects?

Not sure it has a curative effect but studies have shown it slows growth of cancer cells..No problems with falling asleep .It is not a Soperific .

“Soperific”. Great word. I had to look it up lol. “Sleep inducing”. Are you saying that the particular brand you use doesn’t induce sleep, melatonin in general doesn’t induce sleep or melatonin doesn’t induce sleep for you?

I am saying this applies to all Melatonin .Look up Dr. Shallenburger,Riordan Clinic .I have a long text containing a u tube video on the subject .Its on my phone as a message .If you sent me a mobile number I could forward text to you .It's worth listening to .Make sure your cell number is full International as I am in N.Z.

I really WISH it made me sleepy, LOL. Took 10 mg a few hours ago, its midnight and I'm not remotely tired (prolly 'cause I slept in this am, with power out from the Nor'easter).

In fact, I sometimes awaken at 2-3am with vivid dreams on nights I take melatonin, and can't get back to sleep as easily as normal. I stopped taking it for that reason this past summer, but that has not been happening after resuming it quite recently. But it makes me worried to try more than 10 mg. Yes, I am afraid I will NOT be able to sleep with a high dose!

I started taki g it 15mg before bed, no dreams, seem to sleep better but I would not swear to it. I would hate to become dependent on it for sleep but if it has a benefit I am willing to take that chance. No plans to take a mega dose yet for me though.

You say you have had NO side effects from the chemo. Does that mean no hair loss either?

Melatonin has such a short half life (20-50) minutes, hard to believe it would be an effective form of treatment.

Christ! Just one Piping Rock 10mg melatonin tablet and a pregabalin capsule sees me away for the night!

I started on Melatonin a few weeks ago, firstly 1 tablet at 10mg then 3 days later 2 tablets, I had dizziness which lasted most of the next day. I had to lie in bed for most of the morning. I found on a web site that it is a side effect. Did anyone else get this and if so does it last. I dropped down to 5mg but now have upped it to 10mg.

I took 20 mgs a night for about 2 years but now I am up to 60 mgs 4 times a day .I may affect people differently as I have had no side effects .
