I am trying to find anyone who has had experience with high dose testosterone therapy. Specifically, I have been looking at the website of Dr. Bob Leibowitz at compassionateoncology.org
Here is a link to his concept of triple pronged approach to PCa, and the ideas look appealing and I am thinking of consulting him, but would like to hear the experiences of anyone who has tried high dose
my husband had prostatectomy in 11/05. PSA started to rise again 5/08 decide to wait & watch, then 11/09 had 33 doses Radiation which didn’t work, 6/10 had 1 Zoladex injection which kept PSA at undectable until 11/12, then 1 Zoladex injection PSA undectable until 5/14, decide to wait & watch, then 12/14 Scan & Bone Scan showed 5 Mets to spine, 12/14 start Cosudex 28 days and Lucrin for 1 year. 1/17 PSA rising again PSMA scan revealed Mets to 8 Lymph Nodes. Start triple ADT (Dr. Snuffy Myer protocol). Lucrin 3 monthly, Cosudex 50 mg daily & Avodart 500mg Daily. PSA remains undectable. If we knew way back in 2009 what we have learned since, would have done triple ADT sooner.
This is an encouraging response to ADT3. It sounds like he is doing well all things considered.
Is this something the doctor just went with or did you have to convince her/him? I am going to see my MO in a couple weeks and am curious about adding Avodart. I've had a good response to Lupron and Casodex. I think he will stop ADT for now and it seems worthwhile to add Avodart just to keep he DHT low and see what happens.
Read Dr. Charles (Snuffy) Myers & Dr. Stephen Strum’s books. Did a lot of research on PUBMED & Google Scholar, fortunately Bob’s Oncologist was willing to read all the research & prescribe triple ADT. Bob was on Intermittent ADT with Finasteride in between, before the PC metastasised. Cheers Lee
I was a patient of Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers from 9/12 until his recent retirement. As I was Stage 4 with many lymph node mets at diagnosis (PSA=29, Gleason=10), he immediately put me on Lupron, 150mg Casodex, and Avodart. Kept that for many years, but added Zytiga in 1/13 as soon as it was approved prechemo.
Have gone through all drugs since and as Snuffy retired, he referred me to Dr. Oliver Sartor of Tulane. Sartor tried a "Hail Mary" in an attempt to delay chemo, as my PSA kept rising even after 44 sessions of proton beam radiation. For about 7 weeks I daily applied AndroGel (testosterone) to my upper arms and shoulders. Goal was to get my T to 1000 (from 2) and resensitize cancer cells to be able to reuse Xtandi (which I had used before with limited success).
Never got T higher than 750 and PSA went from 4 to 19 before we stopped.
PSA dropped back to 8 and I began chemo with Docetaxel and Carboplatin (due to mets now in liver). Will never know if this 7 week "experiment" caused more mets or not, but it was worth the try. This was high dose testosterone, not cycling BAT as Leibowitz advocates.
Started at 1,666 PSA 01JAN16. Firmagon, then Lupron took me to 0.9 in six months, then began to rise. Began BAT (testosterone) with Dr. Denmeade in July 2017, with PSA at 20.6. Got three rounds of testosterone over three months. Went down slightly first month, then continued to rise to 63.8. My understanding from Denmeade is that approximately one-third benefit. I am now waiting to go on Zytiga.
Began BAT (testosterone) with Dr. Denmeade in July 2017, with PSA at 4. Got five rounds of testosterone, with the 6th round this November 14th. PSA now 30.
I’ve been reading about the misunderstood impact of T on PCa. Just read great book by Dr Friedman and the white paper by Dr Morgentaler about T therapy for PCa patients. Ironically I just sent a questionnaire to Dr Leibowitz about my situation . I’d really like to use TRT if at all possible to mitigate ADT side effects. I’ll report on my findings.
I was in a clinical trial for 5 months first month Psa went down 25 points nex month went down 17 points then the bad stuff started Had ct scan and bone scan lymph nodes double in size came off started on Xtandi when you are on testosterone you feel grate but the cancer loves it had on friend who got a year out of it before it failed
