How would one feel if one forgot to take their daily steroid (10mg) for around 10 days? My Dad totally forgot to get a refill and did not load in his daily pill box. Just realized yesterday. Aye yai yai!
(And btw my Dad's left PCN is in place. He is feeling depressed.)
Thanks in advance!

Is he taking it because he's doing chemotherapy or is there another reason?
When I did chemo, I found that I really needed it for the first 10 days, but didn't take it between day 10 and the next infusion because I had quite a bit of adema. My doctor said it was OK. It sure does help a lot with the side effects during the first week.
There shouldn't be any withdrawal problem at a dose of 10mg although some prefer to taper off to 5mg first.
If he is taking prednisone along with zytiga , the situation is different from stopping cold turkey any glucocorticoid without taking zytiga. There will not be inhibition of the ACTH and he could develop hypertension, edema and hypokalemia with the possibility of arrhythmias.
If he is not taking zytiga and he has been taking prednisone daily for less than 3 weeks, most probable nothing will happen. If he has been taking prednisone for a long time, he could experience fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain etc. etc.
Often the adrenal gland are suppressed by high doses of corticosteroids and are delayed in restarting. That is why it is advisable not to go cold turkey. Mild case of Addison's disease.
