I was shocked to learn of Mike Sexton's passing from prostate cancer at age 72. Anyone who has had a serious interest in poker or who has watched poker on TV is probably familiar with him.
2020 wasn't a great year for poker, with the covid-19 plague. For the first time in many years I no longer traveled to Vegas for the World Series of Poker. The live tournament was canceled; only online events were hosted. I'm not a poker big-shot, just a recreational player. Although I never met him or played at his table it feels like losing a friend.
Quite a story about the legend Mike Sexton, and his work with charities and kids... another sports figure, Cal Ripken, hall of fame baseball player for the Baltimore Orioles was diagnosed and treated for PC earlier this year.
I was sorry to see him go too. An upstanding classy guy , never arrogant. It’s always sad to see another PCa brother bite the dust, he was a skilled card player , a beloved celebrity commentator that will be missed by many.
I loved the World Poker Tour with Mike and Vince Van Patten and Lynn Gilmartin. I though Mike and Vince did a great job analyzing the game and the show's presentation of the cards was very clear and gave the viewer time to digest the strategies. Mike Sexton was a great commentator and he will be sorely missed.
What great stamina. As one who played in an elimination WSP tournament, at the final table I made a major mistake. All In on a full house. The only hand that could beat me was a higher full house........ I lost. Simply tired..... I made a decision that under normal circumstances, I would not have made. RIP Mike Sexton.

Yeah I once bluffed off my stack at a final table. I had run out of lorazepam sedative / sleep aid so I had maybe 2 1/2 hours of sleep and was exhausted to start with. He had the only card he could have called with -- the Ace of hearts. I shoved on a flushy board with the King of hearts and was drawing dead. I've lost to a better full house too but not at a final table.
I relate.... here I am with #2 in chips going against #1 with chips..... he went to Vegas and I should have bided my time...... just too tired and thinking processes dulled. Oh well, money knows no home.....
I followed wsop....but since dx 4 yrs ago havent as much and was unaware of mikes passing thanks for sharing....i always refered to my biopsy as full house 9'over 8s.....b.w
