Dear all, my father started chemotherapy and his 3rd round is next week. He got fever after taking chemo. His temperature was 39 Celsius degree after 1 week since his 1st chemo round. His doctor requested him stayed in hospital for antibiotic infusion. Now, 10 days after his 2nd round, his temperature was 38 Celsius degree.
I would like to ask for your sharing if anyone has had the same issue with my dad and whether you know the reason of the fever. Is there anything that we should be care of? Doctors in my countries do not give much advice for us.
Thanks you in advance and hope you all safe and sound.
Ask his doctor if he can have an injection of Neulasta (pegfilgrastim) after each chemo. It prevents those fevers that could be dangerous. Many take Claritin (loratadine), an antihistimine, with Neulasta.
Yes this happened to me on day 8 after docetaxel chemotherapy. I was admitted into hospital also but not for the fever but because my WBC and neutrophils were 0.0
It is probably the chemotherapy itself causing this but you don’t want to risk sepsis with a bacterial infection so broad spectrum antibiotics were given after blood cultures were taken (which were negative). Neulasta was given to me as an injection to stimulate my WBC to develop. It can cause a lot of bone pain though.
Thank God, today mỏi Ng his temperature returns to normal. hope everything is OK, thank you for sharing
Happened to me too. I went in and they checked blood counts and did a culture. They sent me home after I eventually cooled down. It's not that uncommon with chemo, especially Jevtana.
I recall learning the metric system in grade 7 in Canada and was told that it’s easier to remember that there are 1000 meters in a kilometer than 5280 feet in a mile. Makes sense but a lot of what I do is in imperial measurements and I’ve never gotten use to the metric. A cup of coffee is a delight but in milliliters it just doesn’t taste the same.
Your Q may hav been answered. This condition may be caused by a febrile (increased temperature) neutropenia (lower than usual neutrophils, the most common white blood cell in humans). It is regarded as an emergency because the immune system may be unable to combat infections of the body while may quickly overwhelm it. Hence the immediate infusions of antibiotics etc. It can be helped by taking Neulasta (granulocyte colony stimulating factor).
Thank Immunity1! My dad started his 3rd round of chemo today. His doctor keeps telling him that if he gets fever, he must inform doctors and come to hospital.
