Hi Folks,

My father is suffering from fever since last six days.

Last chemo was administered on 26th March.

He is being administered anti infection drug since last three days but temperature is hovering around 100-101F.

Any suggestions to cope up with fever?

Regards,

Rahul

What do his blood counts look like? Specifically WBC and Absolute Neutrophil Count.

If they are low, he can get an injection of Neulasta® (pegfilgrastim). An antihistamine helps with the side effects if he ends up taking it.

Something to discuss with his doctor.

Actually after each chemo,he gets this injection mandatorily.

His next chemo is scheduled on Friday 9th April.

But it seems chemo date will be postponed till this fever is gone.

Before chemo administration, they do some tests to check whether he is good enough to get the chemo.

Let's see.

I agree with Gregg57 - it may be an immune reaction rather than an infection, but with the pandemic, thay have to look at both.

Yep most probably it's immune reaction.

As a fallout chemo will be postponed.

Dad had fevers too in all of his cycles. First few cycles tensed me, but later we realised it was his body’s reaction to the chemo and nothing to worry.

Ofcourse I always got his blood work checked to see if Incase his WBC / Neutrophil counts were low. They were never low, since he always took the WBC booster after each cycle.

So incase the doctor rules out any known issues then I’d say no need to panic further.

Goodluck!
