My husband just had his first round of chemo last Tuesday. He had a follow up with his Oncologist today had his psa checked it went up 11 points. Is a week to soon to see a difference? Praying it was to soon.
Chemo : My husband just had his first... - Advanced Prostate...
Chemo
I don't understand why his oncologist would look at PSA that soon, and why he wouldn't discuss that with you. Chemo kills prostate cancer cells. Their PSA is dumped into the serum. This should have been explained to you.
What exactly does that mean!!! So what your are saying is initially the psa could rise? Is that so?
I'm with TA, during my Taxotere (chemo) infusions, the blood tests were just for getting the green light for continuing with chemo.
In other words, checking for signs of adverse affects, all looked good was able to complete 6 infusions.
See my above post. PSA will rise then plummet ....We all worry, but after a few years even that anxiety will drop off. I'm working on my 5th year after a 12-18mo. max at the start.... Life is Good. Live it to it's fullest...
Yes !
Way to soon
Learn not to worry about PSA (I pretty much try to ignore mine - unless my Oncologist team mentions it), as many have said here it does move up and down based on treatment.
With my first round of docetaxel chemo, mine like your hubbies, went up for a few treatments, then down, then up again. Luckily as I said I don't worry about it else it probably would drive me crazy with worry.
Live life, throw worry out the window, smile, hug, and laugh as much as possible. What's left in this life can still be wonderful even with this curse.
Think of it as meeting a handsome guy for the first time....Blood Pressure rises and after a few dates he drops you.....
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
