Alternative therapies I've had success with, (new here)

New here. Ever since I learned I had prostate cancer I have tried various things to get rid of it. (Searching books and the internet.) When it became advanced, (metastatic), I kept on searching and trying things. I found a few things that seem to have good effect and want to pass on to other people what I learned. I realize not everyone is the same story but maybe it will help someone if I put this down here.

Urinary blockage back in 2008 led to biopsy and pc was discovered in early stage. Decided on rad therapy which I still feel was a good decision. Metastasis showed up in late 2011, (Which was determined by the doctor from the PSA level which began rising steadily to 6, about a year and a half later.) Hormone therapy in 2012, 2014, 2016. Symptoms began back then in 2012 as pain in tailbone and rectum (exactly where biopsy was taken.)

The 2012 hormone therapy seems to have eliminated the symptoms, ie, tumors probably in rectum and tailbone disappeared. But by that time I had discovered that lycopenes also seemed to alleviate the symptoms. So I have to say that the combination of lots of lycopenes in my diet In addition to the hormone therapy rid me of those two sore spots. I wont ever know for sure but I guess both, together, wiped out the tumors.

But then psa rose again, indicating more apc elsewhere. I began to have lymph nodes swelling in my back. More hormone therapy, and more high lycopene diet seemed to eliminate those probable pc tumors.

I learned in 2018 that all cancer cells die at 106 degrees F. So I have used heat to try to control the growth of tumors. I feel pain, I apply heat to that pain. Pain subsides, goes away for a few days, but comes back. Not sure what is going on but the heat from hot showers (over 106F, and heated steel discs up to 130F, seems to kill the tumors but they always come back. So I just do that.

Also what seems to be metastasis on my skull seems to show up on scans but then go away after hot showers. Some pain spots on my skull behind my left ear likewise went away after hot showers. Seems like the skull metastases are gone now, prior to my recent fourth hormone therapy. Hot showers are pretty hot, like thirty seconds at 120F, and kind of painful, but apparently harmless to normal cells while killing off the metastases.

My psa continued to rise, after the 2016 hormone treatment, and a new hematologist-oncologist now seems to feel, with psa rising above 30, hormone therapy was due in June 2020, last month. Possible metastasis in pelvis and spine. A rib lesion seemed to continue even after the hormone therapy should have stopped it in June 2016. The rib lesion continued to live on, in spite of my high-lycopene diet and heat, and my psa got up into the 30's after four years, and I had a fourth hormone therapy just recently (Lupron with Xtandi).

I was curious about magnetism and wondered if it might have any effect on cancer, in January 2020. Found an article that said it did,

azunimags.com/magneticanswe...

but importantly, negative (south) magnetic field seems to kill cancer cells. I've tried applying negative magnetic fields to sore spots on my neck and the rib lesion. Similar to the lycopenes and heat, they seem to make the growth of the tumors subside, and the mild pain from them goes away, temporarily.

So with those three things in addition to the hormone therapy, things seem to be relatively under control. My psa fell from 30's to about 8 two weeks after the Lupron shot. I still have some pain in my neck and the rib lesion seems to be there, but I am very happy to be alive and living a pretty much normal life, nearly eight years after mpca diagnosis back in 2012. But now coronavirus comes along and makes that seem like a fairy tale compared to a nightmare.

Is this information of use to anyone?

How do you produce negative magnetic fields.

NecessarilySo profile image
NecessarilySo in reply todbrooks_h

I bought small disk magnets, 20x1.5mm, which have north and south poles. It is confusing the way the south pole of the magnet is attracted to the Earth's north pole, and vice-versa. Also by definition, it is important to know that "negative magnetic field" refers to the area which is next to the south magnetic pole of the magnet, which is attracted to the Earth's north pole, and the negative magnetic field is the healing portion of the magnet, while the positive magnetic field is harmful.

I put two magnets together and hung with a string betweem them in a doorway...the south magnetic field points north and the north magnetic field points south. I then use a pen to label each side north and south (magnetic field), with "n" on the south-facing side and "s" on the north-facing side as it hangs in the doorway. Then knowing which is the "south magnetic field" I use waterproof tape to tape the magnet to the sore spot, with the south magnetic field against my skin. I have usually had the pain of the lymph node vanish after about three days. One problem is that if the tumor is larger than the magnet, I have to go back to repeat the process at the peripheral tumors. So it may take constant attention for weeks on a large tumor.

Also I accidentally put the north magnetic field against my skin once accidentally and after a day or so I realized it was irritating so I checked it and changed it. And so it can be harmful if that is done. I live in the northern hemisphere, if that matters.

Update 8/14/20: Since posting this I have started Lupron with Xtandi. My PSA has fallen from over 30 to 0.8. The scans in June drove the doc's decision to restart Lupron in July, (which found multiple sites of "possible" metastases in lymph nodes on neck, on spine, and in pelvic area). Now I continue to use heat and, to lesser extent, magnets, on sore spots. I also consume frequently, at least twice a day, lycopene rich foods, tomato based, such as V8 juice and tomato soup, catsup, spaghetti sauce, thousand island dressing, (Miracle Whip and catsup), etc. I have seemingly eliminated or reduced the sore spots to vague areas instead of spots. I find it difficult to know exactly where to apply magnets, so I have reduced that, but I do still use hot shower once every few days, (stopped a week prior to PSA test), and portable sauna once a week, which I raised to 130 F for 30 minutes. I believe that several therapy techniques such as the Lupron, the Xtandi , lycopenes-rich foods, the hot showers, and the sauna seem to continue to reduce the metastases. It takes time, but things are definitely improving, which is a blessing.

Pain makes it NecssarilySo for you to find remedies for relief.. Lycopene is commonly said to be good for pc . I Take it also along with ten other nutrients . I went for the 50 gram vitamin c and DMSo IV”s my first years until I went into remission . Others will ask you for you initial PSa and stats plus your age? Welcome friend ..🌵Scott

Hyperthermia is an old treatment to kill cancer cells and have been used in other countries like Mexico for decades.

It in fact that cancer cells die if you subject them to temperatures of 106 degree F .

Logistics and risk of burns is very real risk. How to implement it is a big issue.

The relief you are getting by high temp on tumor areas is because high temperature opens vessels and cause vasodilatation and faster flow of blood in the area. That brings more antibodies and immune cells to the site and can cause cell death. One got to be very cautious using such high degree of heat on your skin and tissue. Burns can be very very painful and even disfiguring. Also, there is no way to reach deep areas of tumor with 106 degree heat.

Shower valves in the U.S. are regulated to keep the temperature under 120F. However, I have checked that with a thermal measuring device and I find mine sometimes varies a bit depending on the climate and the water heater setting. I have the setting on Normal. Also by experience, in a hotel, for example, I know that the temperature is all the way up, but also not enough to scald. One learns by experience that 110 is uncomfortable but ovr 120 is unbearable. Other methods such as electric heating pads, I use a thermal measuring device and layers of clothing to regulate the temperature carefully to a range of 120-130. A layer of clothing seems to lower the temperature by about ten degrees.

hi: I have been using infrared sauna several times a week. 130F for 30 minutes. I am used to it now and hope it is having a positive effect on my body.

Which infrared sauna do you use? I've been thinking of getting one myself. Thanks

I go to a small spa where they have 3 of them. i am so fortuneate to use them. If you have the room, the in house infrared saunas don’t take up too much room and are not expensive.

I also bought a portable sauna a year ago which i use one day a week, set at 125 degrees F for 30 minutes. It's called Serene Life, (cost $200). I didn't mention it in my introduction because I am not too certain that it is effective, or let's say, it is not clearly effective. My psa has risen from near zero to over 30 in four years. without hormone treatment, in spite of my lycopenes, heat, and magnet self-treatments. The magnets idea is kind of recent and it did lower psa from 30 to 28 over four months, but then a month later psa went up to 35, so I can't figure that out except the magnets are not reaching something.

I had metastases on my skull which I used the hot shower technique for (which has eliminated several metastases that I saw on my scans), but the sauna does not cover my head, just up to my neck.

My thinking is that the body cools automatically with blood circulation like a car cooling system, instinctively cools internally to try to keep 98.6F, and so the sauna may work on the top surface of the skin, possibly down to a fraction of an inch. I keep thinking I should use it longer or hotter, but I haven't actually tried that. Im glad you mentioned 130F because I was thinking the goal is only 106 so 125 should work and that is pretty hot. I tried two sessions back-to-back, over an hour, but it seemed the same, and I'm too busy.

My thinking is that for deep internal heating of lymph nodes in the pelvis or organs, a hot tub would be more effective, but again, it wouldn't heat the skull unless you used a snorkel. Some hospitals use hot water baths for an hour at 110F in conjunction with chemotherapy. I think the portable sauna might have some limited effect.

Lycopene is good in moderation...

nutritionfacts.org/video/ly...

"Well, after the beta-carotene pill debacle, researchers measured cellular damage at different natural and unnatural doses of beta-carotene. At dietary doses, beta-carotene suppressed cellular damage, but at higher, supplemental doses, it not only appeared to stop working, but caused more damage. And, the same with lycopene. “Both lycopene and [beta]-carotene afforded protection against DNA damage” at the kinds of levels one might see in people eating lots of tomatoes or sweet potatoes—”levels…comparable with those seen in the [blood] of individuals who consume a carotenoid-rich healthy diet.” However, at the kind of blood concentrations that one might get taking pills, “the ability to protect the cells against such [free radical] damage was rapidly lost, and, indeed, the presence of [high levels of beta-carotene and lycopene] may actually serve to increase the extent of DNA damage.” So, no wonder high-dose lycopene pills didn’t work."

I normally don't take lycopene pills. I take V8 or vegetable juice frequently. one quarter cup affects for about 4-6 hours. I used to take four times a day, six hours apart. Also it is necessary to have a small amount of vegetable oil so I usually either put in a few drops of oil or eat a few potato chips with it. It needs to be dissolved in oil to be able to get into the bloodstream. Also fresh tomatoes don't work. They have to be cooked as in pasta sauce or V8 juice or tomato soup, which I tend to eat on regular basis. I also try to get oil into the pasta sauce, juice, or soup in one way or another. (Taco sauce is good too.) I occasionally take pills or empty them into cooking.

Here's what MSKCC says to physicians who have patients coming to them asking about "magnet therapy" or "magnetic healing" being offered by somebody trying to sell something to particularly vulnerable people who may be in the advanced stages of various cancers.

"Marketers make varying unsubstantiated claims for how magnets work, such as: magnets “act upon the body’s energy field,” or correct “magnetic field deficiency syndrome,” a condition said to result from decreases in the earth’s magnetic field over the past 1,000 years. It is purported that the positive (south) pole of the magnet has a “stress effect,” which interferes with metabolic functioning, produces acidity, reduces cellular oxygen supply, and encourages the replication of latent microorganisms. The negative (north) pole is said to have a “calming effect” and helps to normalize metabolic functioning, promote oxygenation, and treat neurological/psychiatric disorders. No evidence supports these claims, and no anticancer activity is seen with magnetic fields in laboratory or human studies. Most anecdotes of magnetic “healing” involve symptoms that may be psychosomatic, associated with stress, or subjective measures such as pain or depression ."

Meanwhile, I hope you get a good long run on the Lupron plus Xtandi combination that now seems to be working and also bringing down your PSA.

in reply toctarleton

I think the magnets work much better if you use them with Lupron and Xtandi.

Hey now ... everyone knows that magnets work best when worn with a mesh of copper wire conductors. You add a little watch battery to your mesh of copper wires ( in back Support , knee or wrist band ) to charge it negative and then you put the negative pole of the magnet in the center of the mesh positioned directly over the area of interest.

I find that effectiveness is greatly improved if you soak your copper mesh knee or ankle etc supports , magnets and battery in a 9 mole solution of hydrochloric acid for a couple hours first to condition them.

"negative (south) magnetic field seems to kill cancer cells" - that's about the oddest thing I've read on here. Magnetic monopoles do not exist. You can't have one without the other.

I've read crazy ideas about magnetism and cancer before, but there is so much wrong with that statement, it's hard to unpack. It starts with "negative (south) magnetic field" - probably wrongly believing that magnetism carries charge, and that the end of a magnet that points to the south end of the Earth's magnetic field is somehow biologically different from the north-pointing end. I wonder if that implies that people living near the South pole are less likely to get cancer than people living near the North pole. In my novel, Thaw's Hammer, the "Blue Cancer" originated in Antarctica - maybe I have to rewrite it?

There are a surprising amount of people out there that believe in such an amazing array of ..... well ........ unusual things that it’s hard to comprehend it all. Still .... if it’s not hurting someone ... what the heck. It’s like me gulping down all those supplements every morning .... most of them probably aren’t hurting me but doing little to nothing good for me as well. .... whatever ! ( people on here talked me into it yayahahahaya). If it makes someone warm and fuzzy feeling , and isn’t harmful ... no biggie . What I hate to hear about are those poor souls that dump their conventional... proven ... treatments... perhaps like with adt or chemo ..... because the SEs are just too much to tolerate or their husband or dad is sinking away , in intolerable pain, right in front of them ..... and run off to places like Mexico for the latest peach pit cure. Or rely entirely on a cure they read about made from psychedelic South American jungle vines. I almost cry for those people that are so desperate to head off the unstoppable that , panicking , .... they start grasping at almost anything .... mindlessly.

Maybe if someone believes strongly enough in magnets , rare herbs, laser beams or diathermy inductions .... along with their prescribed treatment. .... just maybe “ all that “ could make them feel more secure and less afraid. Make them feel like they have a hand in “ things “ as well. No harm no foul ... and uplifted spirits ... it could be a good thing.

Yea ... and trying to legalize magic mushrooms in Washington , DC right now too. I do think things like psilocybin mushrooms could go a long way towards helping many people here with the mental issues and depression that naturally comes with facing the prospect of death every day.

Myself , I can’t even “ smell “ or be in the room with anything like a controlled substance. I get a vial of dap blood along drawn with my monthly’s and am subjected to random tests sprung on me when I show up for any random appointment. While Kaiser never shows you your drug tests results or even warns you they will be made .... I accidentally got the results mailed to me the first of this months test from a new lab Kaiser used for this work. It was two whole pages of tests both blood and urine. Kinda shocking the list of substances they check for. I’m croaking for crepes sakes , what to they think would happen to me if I partook of a little something here and there ... I as drinking a beverage made from poppy seeds , they caught it in my blood work one month and came unglued ... presence of non prescribed opiates .. it’s “ seeds “ ... just seeds .... yayahahahaya. They are powerful and VERY effective... but just over the counter seeds never the less.

I know ..... I know .... that or Lupron fog has finally eaten too many brain cells. I’m almost ready to peel some carrots and wrap them around some small cow magnets ( if they work for cows and carburetor feeds they must be good ... ...... right ? ) and heat them to 120f and eat them ... right ? ...... huh ?

Whadda you got to lose if you’re late stage 4, the worse could happen is I’d get all those nails I ate from a previous post ( the one that Swallows nails to puncture the dog worm pills and makes them work better ) out and clear up some of that intestinal discomfort. Right ? ....

Sorry guy, re-wording did not help, “Metastasis showed up in late 2011, (Which determined by the doctor from the psa level which began rising steadily to 6, about a year and a half later.)“ Without scans, particularly an initial base line scan, one never knows the scope of disease. You very well could have been metastatic as the time of your radiation or shortly there after. Good luck.

According to the American Urological Association, Serum PSA should

decrease and remain at undetectable levels after radical

prostatectomy. The AUA defines biochemical recurrence as an initial

PSA value 0.2 ng/mL or greater followed by a subsequent confirmatory

PSA value 0.2 ng/mL or greater.

Values obtained with different assay methods or kits cannot be used

interchangeably. Results cannot be interpreted as absolute evidence

of the presence or absence of malignant disease.

That is a standard method of detecting metastasis,"although "it cannot be interpreted as absolute evidence".

This also applies to radiation therapy. which I had in 2008, which radiates and kills most or all of the prostate cells, similar to prostatectomy. So after the therapy I checked PSA level every six months and after three years, it rose to 6. from <0.1, and my doctor considered it Stage 4 or "Advanced Prostate Cancer". or metastatic which means it has spread elsewhere. Do you understand?

Ok, I’ll remove my last sentence and apologize....... look, how anyone treats their cancer is their business. Adults can make decisions that are outside of the norm and that is ok. Your treatment, as described, leaves one to wonder...... you probably had micro-metastasis prior to your biopsy; maybe even detectable spread, but you don’t really know.

The skeptic in all of us kicks in where one describes his disease treatment shunning conventional means and essentially touting alternative means.

Good luck in your journey,
