Thanks for this info. Saturday morning scanning the forums with my white tea...

"The treatment of a patient with 3% Clioquinol Cream successfully suppressed the

progression of androgen-dependent prostate cancer. "

Wow!

pjoshea13 profile image
pjoshea13 in reply to jdm3

Wow indeed!

If only it were that easy. Should be easy to obtain, though. First you get ringworm/athlete's foot/jock itch & get a script for topical Vioform. From Wikipedia:

"Topical use

"Clioquinol is a constituent of the prescription medicine Vioform, which is a topical antifungal treatment. It is also used in the form of a cream (and in combination with betamethasone or fluocinolone) in the treatment of inflammatory skin disorders.

"Potential use as a preventive or treatment in prostate cancer

"It has long been recognized that normal prostate cells have high zinc content through ZIP1 mediated uptake, and have low respiration (OXPHOS ATP generation is diverted to citrate export for sperm energetics). Prostate cancer cells have downregulated ZIP1 transporters which leads to greater ATP generation which is diverted to cancer proliferation, an example of a normal-like metabolic phenotype instead being malignant. The zinc ionophore clioquinol was shown in mice to restore zinc levels and stop the growth of prostate tumors."

So just taking a regular zinc supplement would not be expected to help restore zinc levels?

Shanti1 profile image
Shanti1 in reply to cesces

Because the cancer cells have lost the ZIP transporter, taking high dose zinc is not enough to impact the cancer. You need a medication that acts as a zinc ionophore to restore the intracellular zinc.

I took zinc citrate (50 mg) for some years, based on this paper:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/183...

However, I am going to give zinc ionophore a try.

Patrick...thank you again for keeping us aware of very important treatments of PCa.

I am personally grateful to you for providing info about areas of my interest.

I am taking Ionic nanotized Zinc 10 drops a day with half cup of Red Onion juice (good source of quercetin). My friend could not bring clioquinol 3% from India due to Covid19. In the mean time, using Onion juice, red apple peels and quercetin capsules as Zinc Ionophores.

Nal,

I just this morning drank a smoothy of Onion juice, Ginger juice, Apple peel juice and dark red grapes juice . In this smoothy, I put ten drops of Ionized, Nanotized Zinc. In fact, all my family members are doing it after our last discussion 3 months ago on this forum.

Nalakrats, What is the brand, form, dose of Nanotized Zinc, that you are using?

Thanks,

Doug

I am also using the same brand Nalakrats is using...HYPR Ionized Zinc...its now easily available on Amazon. Distributor is a Boynton beach,FL company.

Patrick,

Is the Clioquinol, related to the Hydroxyquinilone, that Dr. Zelenko has been promoting for Covid?.........he prescribes it with Zinc......claims the Hydroxyquinilone opens up channels for the Zinc to get into the cells.

I saw a You Tube, where a guy who claimed that standard Tonic Water has the same properties as Hydroxyquinilone, and could be taken with Zinc, to fight Covid ( and PCa?).

What do you think?

Doug

Shanti1 profile image
Shanti1 in reply to Garp41

Chloroquine (journals.plos.org/plosone/a... and probably hydroxychloroquine are zinc ionophores that have been studied as such in other cancer types, bust since Costello used Clioquinol for his prostate-specific research, my husband opted to use Clioquinol as the zinc ionophore of choice when trying this combination. Tonic water contains a small amount of quinine which may have some zinc ionophore ability, but I don't see that has been confirmed, plus I would guess the amount is too small to have any appreciable impact.

Hi, Doug,

"In addition to chloroquine, the nutraceuticals quercetin (bioflavonoid) and epigallocatechin-gallate (green tea polyphenol) are also zinc ionophores. Quercetin plus zinc is being tested as an anti-viral in human clinical trials for the treatment of Covid-19. The antioxidant resveratol [also] appears to have ionophore activity."

"Getting zinc into the cell is obviously dependent on having adequate levels of zinc outside the cell. Zinc absorption does vary by individual. Physiological stressors, such as infection and inflammation, tend to deplete zinc pretty fast."

Other natural zinc ionophores include pyrithione, found in the Persian shallot.

Good sources of quercetin include capers, dill, cilantro, red onion and kale.

(I wonder: was hydroxychloroquine found ineffective against COVID because it was not combined with enough zinc, in general? Or was it administered too late?)

Garbonzeaux profile image
Garbonzeaux in reply to noahware

My impression is that it was a combination of not enough Zn and given too late, but I have no proof of that. Unfortunately, a number of clinical trials were shut down when the paper using bogus data came out. I think at least some of those trials have restarted, but I don't know if they include Zn. And precious time has been lost. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that hydroxychloroquine with Zn and perhaps azithromycin is effective if used in early stages.

Hi Nal- I think you could use oral clioquinol, but there are toxicity concerns and oral clioquinol has been withdrawn from many markets (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/188.... You don't reach blood levels associated with toxicity with the dose use in the transdermal application.

I ordered Persian Shallots but fresh ones are not available in US. I ended up ordering dried ones which are very difficult to eat and not suitable for cooking. So I reverted back to red onions, dark red raisins and red apple peel (skin).

I'll share our experience using the 3% clioquinol cream and zinc. Please see my profile for history details. My husband was on an ADT vacation from Aug 2018 to June 2020 after a year of Trelstar and Zytiga. By Oct, 2018 his testosterone was > 300 and soon after reached >600. His PSA remained <0.006 until June 2019 when it was first detected at 0.029. We tracked his PSA monthly and established a 50% doubling time. With our oncologist, we set a PSA of 1 as the limit for re-initiating ADT. We used 3% clioquinol with 100mg of zinc during 4 of the months between detectable PSA and reaching a PSA of 1. When this combo was used, the PSA plateaued. We both think that if we had used the clioquinol and zinc earlier in the ADT vacation and more consistently we could have extended the time off ADT even more. What is interesting is that on the months when my husband used the clioquinol cream, he did not even use it for the entire month, he used it for 3-7 days. He is very sensitive to medications and felt quite fatigued while using the clioquinol, which is why we weren't more aggressive with it.

I asked my family doctor to prescribe clioquinol for a short trial but of course he refused.

It should be noted that disulfuram, aka Antabuse, is an ionophore as well. It breakdown in the stomach into two moieties of diethyldithiomethylcarbamate which react with zinc and copper to form a complex that is able to penetrate cell walls.

Cheers, Phil

Be careful with Antabuse (disulfiram) If you drink any alcoholic beverage with it..you will have severe nausea, vomiting and your blood pressure will skyrocket...(CAUTION)

I agree, oral could be used by a skilled individual with care to stay the below toxic levels that were found with high dosing. Using the cream eliminates that concern, but perhaps one could get a better response with oral. My husband felt fatigued even using the cream and got a response, so we never considered oral. Here is info on absorption from oral vs transdermal:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/157...

"Following epicutaneous application of the three topicals in quantities containing 30 mg clioquinol each, the urinary excretion of the drug was between 1.2 and 3.6% of the applied dose. When the same dose of clioquinol was administered orally to two volunteers, 52.4 and 92.9% of the dose was excreted in the urine."

I dont know a pharmacy source. It was a friend who agreed to bring a few tubes of Betnovate-C but Covid19 caused huge unending lines at pharmacies and disruption so he had to come back without them.

Glad to see this report. This zinc as treatment is new to me, as I had been warned to avoid zinc. Some questions...Where on your body do you apply it? Is it obtained only by doctor's prescription? Is it more effective or more common or easier to obtain by pill than cream? I want some soon.

Currumpaw profile image

Hey Nalakrats!

I understand. I didn't do the --hmm--hmm--"night time chelation". I had infusions containing B vitamins and vitamin C along with EDTA. I didn't take any supps the evening before other than C and curcumin which I was told was okay. I fasted, had the chelation infusion when they opened and drank water between a pint and quart every hour for about 6 hours. When getting the chelation infusions one knows when the strength of the chelation chemicals begins to wane. The urination becomes more normal even with the volume of water being ingested. That was how it was for me. I can't say for everyone. I had the max amount of C put in the bag.

SO EXCITED! I just found a 3% by weight Clioquinol cream in an inert base cream in MEXICO. OTC and it is called CORTIFUNG ! Reasonably priced.

vivamais7 profile image

Here I am in this new Post. There is no problem in getting Clioquinol Cream 3% in Mexico: "Clioquinol Crema 3%" (20 grs.) and "Vioformo" (60 grs.). I have been using this for just 2 weeks and hope to see some positive results in the near future. I use it twice a day in my arms (veins area).

JPnSD profile image
JPnSD in reply to vivamais7

in the research I read it said the genital region was the most effective location for absorbtion....and extremities the least FYI. What type of Zinc supplement are you taking and at what dose?

vivamais7 profile image
vivamais7 in reply to JPnSD

I am applying clioquinol in my arms because of the protocol "andrew61" has followed as by prescription of Dr. George Yu (Annapolis). I believe Dr. Yu is treating PCa with Clioquinol/Cabergoline protocol. In fact he has been involved with Dr. Costello's Study.

So I did this regimen religiously on a daily basis for a month (3% Clioquinol cream - from a compounding pharmacy applied topically and 1-2 ml of HYPR Ionic Zinc from Amazon)...and my PSA that had stabilized at .08 for 3 months..shot to .13 in 30 days! I know it is only anecdotal...but now you have 1st hand account ....it doesn't work.

pjoshea13 profile image
pjoshea13 in reply to JRPnSD

A true believer might suggest that the increase is due to leakage from dying PCa cells. When is your next test?

Best, -Patrick

JPnSD profile image
JPnSD in reply to pjoshea13

I am presently considering ADT and SRT due to the increase and a DECIPHER score of .78 (high risk). I tried to edit my comment above, but edit did not appear as an option only REPORT? ANyway...meant to say...it does not work...for me.

Shanti1 profile image
Shanti1 in reply to JRPnSD

I do not know how well this protocol works, we did get results for 4 of the 5 months we tried with stabilization of PSA that otherwise had a 2 month doubling time. The month where we did not get results, my husband only took 50mg of zinc. Please note that Costello suggests at least 100mg of zinc and the product you were using has 15mg in 1ml, so you were getting 15-30mg a day, which may not be enough as the protocol is dependent on the transport of zinc into the cancer cells. With everyone's cancer so different, I'm guessing there are people who would respond and people who wouldn't, but when trying this I think it is important to use the recommended dose of zinc. Despite being an "ionic" form, I don't see a reason that the HYPER zinc would be better than zinc acetate or zinc gluconate in capsules or some of the other zinc forms in capsules since those will form zinc ions once ingested. Anyhow, it is possible that your zinc dose was not high enough.

JPnSD profile image
JPnSD in reply to Shanti1

At the time I started this I asked for guidance from Nalakrats (suggested the dosage I used when I asked him directly for help with HYPR product) yourself and others in this post and other posts mentioning this regime/research. I agree that having some standardized materials and dosage information for anyone thinking of trying this is important....and I put a lot of energy and time into my preparations..and I thought I had put enough feelers out there to get that info. I now feel like I wasted a month....and with a DECIPHER test putting me in the highly aggressive category...and PSA rising...and all documentation saying earlier intervention is needed....my time to experiment with this is done. All we can each do is report our anecdotal information with as much detail as possible...and hope it helps others.

Thanks for the additional information.

I am sorry you had such a frustrating experience. I agree that your window for expiriment is over, unless you try it along side conventional. Please know I did post my concerns as a reply to you about the dose hyper-zinc, but you must have missed it: healthunlocked.com/advanced... . Anyhow, even with higher zinc, we don't know if you would have responded or not.
