Hi all, I used yellow dock tea, prepared as a decoction, for anemia years ago (non-cancer-related). It was very helpful.
Have any of you used it for anemia during chemo or other cancer treatment? I couldn't find it in the Sloan Kettering database, which surprised me as it's not an uncommon herb.
Husband Barry has developed anemia; the hospital deemed him just over their threshold for transfusion, but he's definitely feeling the symptoms.
He is currently taking Cabazitaxel, although it may be discontinued as PSA is rising and his liver levels went up. His next treatment is scheduled Monday.
Thanks!

Is it high in iron? Be careful about giving him anything that raises iron levels when he has impaired ability to utilize iron. Free iron is toxic, and his liver is already overburdened from the chemo. Make sure you clear it with his oncologist.
Excellent point, thanks for mentioning this. I definitely wasn't having chemo when it was recommended to me by a health professional years ago for an entirely different condition....
Are you familiar with iron bisglycinate, used to avoid constipation from other types of iron? And yes, I will ask the oncologist about all of this --- I also like the heads-ups provided by you and the other Health Unlocked people.
