Bladder Cancer Blood Test

lavis profile image
14 Replies

I have damage to my bladder as a result of Prostate Cancer Guided Radiation Treatment, in 2013.

I have had a couple of instances this year of small clots, in my urine.

The last Urologist that used a scope up my penis to check for Bladder Cancer, a few years ago, caused a lot of pain and bleeding.

I want to avoid that scope if possible.

I understand there is a new blood test to detect possible bladder cancer and thus avoid using a scope.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone that has had this test or that can confirm this test is available.

Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Lavis, a renal ultrasound showed a tumour mass in my bladder which latter proved to be caused by the PCa mastisising. A renal ultrasound is a painless method of investigation which IMO should be done before a Cystoscopy. Regards DD 😎

Thank you Doseydoe.

That is what I have been worried about.

Your info is extremely helpful.

Thank you

Hi Lavis, just back from my Urologist with a booking to have a Cystoscopy and a TURBT in three weeks time. Pathology returned a PSA of 0.39, was 50 at DX, so happy with that - the ADT and Chemo is working. Hopefully my bladder will be clear of any tumours and he will be able to remove the stent. If not, he will do a bit of house keeping and replace the stent. A Cystoscopy is the only way to be sure what condition the bladder is in and I'm glad I'll be knocked out with a general anesthetic. Keep up the fight brother, regards DD 😎

Thank you Doseydoe!

Wish you the best of luck and success on your upcoming procedures.

Even if they knocked me out, I still have reservations regarding a Cystoscopy, due to my bad experience, in the past.

I am thinking about changing my Urologist so this might be a good time to discuss my options.

Thank you for your response and input.

Much appreciated.

Lavis

I've had 3 up your willy probes... One doctor, 2 probes, Another doctor 1 probe. No problems/pain or blood.

I've also had dozens of urinary stents (in and out) without pain or blood.

If you will get a probe,,, make sure you get a good urologist. Or cup his giblets while he does the probe and ask him "we're not going to hurt each other, are we doctor?"

Hi John!

Did you have damage to your bladder from Radiation Treatment?

Because I did, I am very cautious about having a Cystoscomy.

During one of my many visits to the Emergency Room for blood clots from damage to my bladder the doctor told me the scope could have caused damage to my bladder.

I had never had a bleeding issue before the scope was used on me.

In addition, it was horrendously painful.

I got a new Urologist after that experience.

Thank you for your response.

No damage to my bladder.... just check ups.... but I did have damage to my urinary tract which they think was caused by frying my bed. No bleeding no pain....

If you're in NYC and have VA coverage I would recommend Dr. E Sosa at the VA.... he's a magician with stents...

John,

I know you get treated at MSK as we had chatted together before. If you like to share your urologist name please if he is at MSK? Thanks

I had Dr. James Eastham at MSKcc for a short period of time, he performed my RPD and is considered top notch. I don't know if he's seeing new patients since I'm not seeing him anymore. But I do have a good urologist at Weill Cornell hospital with a MO at Sloan. Hopefully I answered your question... If you need more info I'll be glad to help.

Thank you for your response.

My PSA has remained pretty low (0.15) or the past few years.

I will discuss your recommendation with my Doc.

Thank You, Naladrats!

I will do almost anything to avoid that Cystoscopy!

Hopefully, I see some kind of scan in my future!

Sincerely,

Lavis
