LU-177 in England

I'm debating whether to go to England or Germany for the LU-177 procedure once it's safe to travel, which I hope is with in the next couple of months.

Has anyone been to England for the procedure?

We have not been to England but called them. We called before my husband had psma test and to do that in England would have required a second trip weeks apart. They told us they get the medicine from Germany so we went directly to the source. I think I have contact information buried in my paperwork somewhere, which we simply got off the internet. If you need it message me and I'll dig it out

Thanks. I have talked to the Dr. Yung Du in England. England is less expensive then Germany.

I have a PMSA scan schedule at University of Michigan in late May.

Congratulations on the psma at u of m! My husband is a patient there and they could not get us in because he didn't fall into the parameters of their trials! We ended up flying to UCLA to get it done. We were told the test should be approved by FDA this summer but who knows with this virus over taking everything . My husband had his first treatment in Munich as our borders were closed and we are due to go back at the end of April if possible . We may also reach out to London as we move forward best of luck!

I think our politicians do not want to announce a curfew and travel restrictions for the next six months. But it seems that the problems caused by Corvid-19 will get worse, not better. As long as there is no medicine nor vaccine available, what shall stop the disease from spreading? The current measures can just slow the spread but not stop it. And even that does not seem to work in India and probably other countries too.

I agree. Be safe and healthy. Best of luck!!

I recently contacted the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and received the following quotes:

PSMA Scan - £2,800

Lu-177 Cycle - £12,300 (You may need several)

There are several places in London offering the treatment (not sure if true now during the Covid 19 Virus situation) including the London Clinic which I believe is marginally less expensive than the above.

Overall I'm pretty sure both the PSMA Scan and treatment in Germany is substantially less expensive than in England.

In Vienna/Austria it was 14 000 €, a little bit cheaper than in London now.

I have a quote from Germany and England. England is $16,000 for LU 177, PMSA scan will be done at UofMich. Germany is $25,000 which includes PMSA scan. It's my understanding that in England you are in a clinic where in Germany your in a hospital room.

I am at The London Clinic as I write, about to have LU 177 treatment, just had cannula fitted.

I believe the radionuclide is made in the UK and shipped to the hospital on the day it is needed.

The clinic has been very good and I would recommend them.

The clear advantage is that English is the primary language.

My PSA has gone from 1,585 to 216 over the previous 4 treatments, this is treatment number 5. And tumours have reduced in size by as much as 50%.

Sounds like a great response. Thanks for the info.

I've been in conversation with Dr. Yung Du in Winsdor UK. Have you had many side effects?

I would say I have had no real side effects from the Lutetium, I do feel tired for a day or two but that could be due to a long day snd so on.

My calcium level is down in my blood but I think that is due to the Zoledronic Acid and not the Lutetium.

But we are all different.

GaryMi,

I did the Vision trial in the ISA with 6 LU177 infusions. I had great response dropping from a PSA of 115 to a low of 0.43. And resolution of most of my bone Mets.

Within 5 months my PSA rose to 15.8, I developed new Mets to my hip and rib which we then treated with SBRT. I was hoping for a longer response from LU177 but i know others have had longer responses.

I am currently receiving lutetium 177 and actinium 225 at Heidelberg University in Germany. The cost is $11,300 per treatment. My primary concern at this point is getting back into Germany for my May 7 treatment.

Thanks. I'm dealing with bookinghealth.com. Are using this travel agent?

in reply togarymi

I think you're better dealing directly with the hospital. Eliminate the middleman. Works out less expensive without losing any benefit treatment wise.
