I have had prostate cancer for 18 years and in the middle of this awful pandemic, I do not want this to be the end of the road. I Have been on Xtandi,Zytiga, Radium shots and have been on Lupron for years. My PSA this month just rose from 45 to 68. I have not had chemo because I have a low
white blood cell count ( though this blood test showed it to be the highest its ever been so it now may be an option. Will be speaking to my ONC this week. I need something that I can do without going to to a hospital or facility because I run more of a risk of dying from Covid than the prostate cancer. I read something about a PARP inhibitor-
particularly OLAPARIB. Does anyone know anything more I can do w/o chemo and going to a facility until this mess is over.
I live in NY and am currently "stuck" in Florida because of the virus. Can someone please help. Any suggestions?

There is a clinical trial in process using olaparib and Keytruda. You need biopsied tissue for the drug manufacturer to verify you have the correct genetic mutation. Have you had a genetic test to determine any mutations?
Taking blood tests tomorrow- hopefully PSA is not out of control. Not sure what Onc
will suggest- but I am weak and having trouble walking and I am concerned about side effects that at this stage will wipe me out. I will be 86 at the end of May and
I would like to give myself more time. Last time I teleconferenced with the doctor
he mentioned Olaparib. Does anyone know what the side effects are besides
I am having blood tests tomorrow and hoping my PSA isnt totally out of control.
ONC suggested last month when we video conferenced that maybe we can consider
Olaparib. I will be 86 in the middle of May. I am weak and am having trouble walking due to spinal surgery 3 years ago from the PC in my bones. So I dont want to
do myself in with medication, but I would like to buy some more time till I return home to NY. Does Olaparib have any serious side effects? Is there any other Med I should ask my doctor about that would buy me some more time? Tim mentioned Fenbendatzone- what is that?
I have been on chemo a number of times and for more than a year straight. I don’t know how it would affect you but they can prescribe a white blood cell building med for you. I know it is a very personal decision. I wouldn’t dismiss it unless it is impossible for you to take. They can split the chemo doses so they are not as severe. 18 years is a long time, my hat off to you warrior! Keep fighting !
