I'm PCa for 13+ years and Stage 4 for the past 3+. On ADT (Lupron or equiv. only). PSA climbed to 2.1 in Dec. 2019 and Oncologist suggested Provenge before we consider Zytiga or another second tier drug. I was just notified that insurance has approved the Provenge treatment. It seems I am going with the catheter approach for the collection and infusion (difficult veins). Any suggestion or advice?

Provenge Advice
I'm doing Provenge now I haven't had any adverse effects .there Using my veins to administer and withdraw.. I had two collections I'm getting my 2nd Infusion tomorrow
This would be a good time to do docetaxel. It increases antigen presentation, and the Provenge makes up for any myelosuppression caused by the docetaxel. They are synergistic.
Keep in mind that Provenge does not affect PSA.
My dad is about to start. He's getting a double lumen dialysis port and for some reason they are wanting to give him infusions every week rather than every two weeks in order to get the port out asap. It seems strange to me. Do you know what kind of port you'll be getting?
I used the term "port" and was corrected by the nurse navigator for the procedure. She said it will be a "apheresis" catheter placed in a vein in my upper chest. It will remain for the entire period of the Provenge treatment (6 weeks). It shouldn't significantly affect my activities with the exception of swimming (pool or ocean)
