Another Turkey Trot

Ran the Ayer 5K this morning for the 12th year in a row, and the second since diagnosis. Had to really hustle in the last mile to finish in under 30 minutes. There's two other cancer survivors (breast and ovarian) that I know of in the running club, and they were both there and completed the 5K. Just noticing a pattern that bodies in motion tend to stay in motion, and tend to have good quality of life after cancer or other disease strikes.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody, keep up the good fight.

Great to hear. I miss my running days. Ran 4 marathons back in the 80's concluding with NYC where I was in the top 10% of my age group. Then while recovering in the 'tent' I asked myself "Why are you doing this?" and concluded that I just might be losing my mind. LOL...so reverted to 5ks and now I miss it (I can't even walk around the block.)

So..hang in there Tom!

Sorry to hear you have trouble walking :-( I've only done one marathon back in 2011, and I'm not yet sure if it suits me or not yet. It took several half marathons to find out that I really like the 13 mile distance. There's something about getting a second wind in the later part of a long race that really excites me.

Gonna try and do marathon number 2 next year, and now that my time goal is more modest due to cancer I might avoid hurting myself during training.

I hope you're able to find some treatment that gets you moving again. I look at my running friends that have had to stop due to arthritis or injury and part of me thinks "well, at least I only have incurable cancer and can still run".

I really envy you guys that still have your strength, mobility and vitality. And those handsome guys like Lulu and the rest. Good for you to be able to accomplish what you do. You are fortunate.

I was born in the mid 40s in Appalachia and back then we had something called the “ Turkey Trots “ too . You usually started to “ run “ with those as well. Usually after eating lumpy milk or that fried Prairie chicken after it sat out for a couple of days. ( ice blocks, no electricity in those days ). Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya

Remember when PDA ( personal data assistant ) was a small electronic device you held in your hand . Nowadays that is long forgotten... now PDA in social media slang for “ personal display of affection “ ... times change .... go figure 🤯

Peace brother 💪💪💪💪 ✌️✌️

I always thought "Turkey trot" sounded like a medical condition.

My father-in-law had a camp in VT, no water or electricity. There's nothing like having Turkey trots when you have to use an outhouse in 20 degree weather. :-)

Thank goodness for corncobs and the sears catalog . Pages with too many pictures on them got a little slippery.

We had been on our rocky hillside for many generations... there was a long staggered line of dark mounds down a row from our outhouse. There , before I moved out , we got a “ two holer “ ... I don’t think I ever got used to that concept ! Yayahahaha yayahahaha. No worse than sleeping 5 to a bed with your clothes on , in the winter I guess.

Peace brother ✌️

That would be my wife. I tried to get her to run, she told me I picked the sport she liked the least.

There's something about running and beer that go well together. Have you ever done a hash run? It involves running through the woods while drinking, definitely a unique experience.

Nope, dunno about the woods, rather be in the street

I remember the hash runs we used to have. Those who could get to their feet usually ran into walls.

I ran cross country in college. Odd for someone 6'4". Don't know if I could run 1/4 mile now. Maybe I should try some time.

Definitely give it a try. If you enjoy running, it's one of the best exercises you can do.

You’re my hero! Keep running for us all and for those of us that can’t . Thanks ..
