Dodged Another Bullet

I was on Eligard for two years and the hormone treatment was ended in October 2022. On July 3rd 2023 I had a minor heart attack. Fortunately I recognized the symptoms straight away and went directly to the ER. I had a >90% blockage in my right coronary artery, and ended up with one stent in the artery. I’m still in rehab mode at the moment. In 2019, prior to my prostate cancer diagnosis, my RCA was 100% clear when I had a preventative CT Angiogram.

I’m suspecting that the two years of Eligard my have contributed to my cardiac condition. It certainly wasn’t related to my diet. I had read somewhere that prostate cancer and heart disease tend to go hand in hand.

Anyway, I dodged another bullet. My friends are calling me a coffin dodger. There must be a bus out there somewhere with my name on it 👍.

I'm so glad you recognized it and were treated on time. I also believe to have read that ADT can have an impact on cardio health. My dad had TIA while on bicalutamide 150mg and he never had any problems with blood pressure, cholesterol etc.

I read something a number of months ago....... it is NOT rare/uncommon that someone thought to be in excellent health has a heart attack> does that mean that the ADT had nothing to do with your event? Not at all, but likewise we cannot say that the ADT caused your CV event. I don't think any study has shown a clear correlation between ADT and CV events for men not known to have previously had any CV events/comorbidities. On the other hand, I believe studies seem to indicate an association between ADT and CV events for men who had CV events/disease prior to initiation of ADT.
