It looks like there is a tablet version of GnRH antagonists soon to be approved. This is an alternative to Lupron-class drugs, in tablet form. The trial has show it supresses T levels quicker than Lupron, but the side effect profile is similar:
Actually when I took the survey they definitely asked leading questions about the cost vs convenience issues. I pretty much told them that a once a six month visit for a shot I don't pay for is hard to beat. Their product supposedly wears off much faster, so that might be a plus in some cases.
It is a GnRH antagonist which puts it in the same class of drugs as abarelix, which was withdrawn due to its histamine releasing properties, and degarelix which is still on the market as Firmagon.
It has similar properties to these drugs causing a rapid fall in testosterone to subcastrate levels in a few days.
My guess is that it will be used to induce sub castration levels of testosterone before switching to leuprolide in most cases which will be better for most patients as the double shot of degarelix aka Firmagon is pretty painful.
