For me the side effects varied a lot from dose to dose. They included hip and joint pain - after the 2nd dose I had really severe lower back pain for 2 nights. I was convinced it had to be spinal chord compression - but after a short slow walk on the 3rd day the pain disappeared. The side effects are a bugger but they do pass.
Joint soreness and stiffness is normal. Exercising (even if it’s just walking) and stretching helps a lot with these symptoms and also helps fight fatigue.
Did you have an Neulasta shot to fight infection due to low white blood cells? If so, take a Zyrtec (it an over the counter antihistamine) each day. That helps a lot. My MO and all the folks in the infusion center said for me to do that.
Best of luck with your journey! We are pulling for you!

Thanks I went to gym even after chemo but today my pain in my leg through me away. What you think walking in treadmill may be impacted this.
I think a lot of us had that. I too found that walking every day for a mile helped greatly. Listen to your body and don’t overdue it and stay hydrated. There were a few days where I could only walk around the block since I was so achy and tired and that’s fine. I also preferred outside to a treadmill...better for the spirit and ensures you can go at your own pace.it gets wayyyyy better so hang in there! Doug
Will be starting the docetaxel treatment in 2 weeks. Will pray for your well being in your journey. God bless
Did your MO recommend claritin for those neulasta side effects? My husband's didn't! I had to discover it on this site. He takes it for one week starting with 2 days before chemo. He says it cuts out 90% of the pain.
After my husband passed out from dehydration
During the first chemo the mo recommended that he do a saline drip on the first day of the he nadir. He has done this during the past two treatments and he says it helps a lot with the pains which come and go for him.
He is also exercising to help maintain energy.
Claritan ... I found, from this site, that taking a single 24 hr Claritan the day I get home from the infusion and once a day for 4 days after really cuts the bone pain to almost nil. If it wasn't for this site, I would have never known that. Tremendous help!
Hang in there. I'm 8 cycles in and have this to some degree every cycle. It tends to go away after a week, as do the other side effects. If it makes you feel better it's been very effective for me and you learn to deal with the side effects.
I had six treatments of docetaxel starting almost exactly one year ago. My cancer has only spread to localized lymph nodes, at least as shown on the scans, with no bone involvement shown. I had a lot of trouble with low stamina and fatigue. Still do, but not on the level as I did during treatment.
Nausea was a significant problem. It was a weird nausea that I'm not sure I can describe. I was able to keep it mostly at bay with tiny doses of cannabis oil every 8 hours. It was so effective that I hate to think what it would have been like to not have it. A gram of oil would last me about 12 days, give or take a couple. I put the doses in empty capsules. Frankly, I would have used more if I had more of a supply available, but this generally did the job. The prescription anti-nausea pills didn't do nearly as well, in fact the often didn't touch it. No, I didn't tell the oncologist as he has a strong stigma against it, but I was confident in my choice based on my own research.
One thing I wish I would have done differently is take measures to guard against neuropathy. I should have iced my hands and feet, as I'd read about. I also learned, too late, that glutamine as been shown to be protective against chemo-induced neuropathy.
Lastly, I took a few other supplements, after a discussion with the oncologist and the pharmacist in the infusion center. The least conventional one was turkey tail mushroom extract, based again on my own research. There is an interesting TED talk by Paul Stamets about a study that was done that included turkey tail in treating breast cancer. The same university tried to put together a similar study on prostate cancer, but they had trouble recruiting due to other competing trials at the time. The video is linked on this page.
I had Zarxio shots for low white blood cell count 2 cycles into chemo. Similar to Neulasta. Legs ached just sitting. Almost begged to have shots discontinued; they wouldn't listen. It seems that Claritin may have taken all the misery away. Did not know until I found this site and chemo was already done. Nobody in the chemo unit seemed to have this knowledge. They gave me a chemo book, they should have sent me to this site.
steroids taken day before, day of and day after. plus Claritin and Zyrtec. took one each few days before and week after. also iced hands and feet to help avoid neuropathy. hope the tips help!
My husband was having severe pain the first time, apparently the pain was from the Neulasta. The first time he has severe pain for couple of days! For the 2nd dose he took Claritin the day of the chemo and every day for 5 more days. His pain was minimal! I’ve heard some oncologist recommending Zyrtec and others recommending Claritin. The first time my husband took Zyrtec and he had horrible pains and the 2nd and 3rd time he took Claritin and he had minimal pain. Hope this helps
