I had a proctectomy in November 2011 and Salvage Radiation in starting August 2018. I have been on IADT since July 2018.
Recently I had been experiencing more than usual incontinence.
Early October 2024 I had a bleeding incident with clotting when I urinated. This occurred on three consecutive trip to the restroom and then cleared up. No pain or indication any thing was wrong nor any bleeding problem since. I have had different levels of light burning and itching sensation in my right groin area for most of the month. I saw a Urological PA Oct 14, 2024 that suggested I probably had Cystitis from the SRT. I was scheduled for a cystoscopy yesterday.
During the exam the Surgical Urologist confirmed an area of cystitis he also discovered a surgical clip in my bladder. Surgical Clips are often used to control bleeding and routinely left in place. The Dr. said the surgical clip had eroded its way into my bladder. I could not tell from the video if the surgical clip was still imbedded in my bladder wall or was floating free and he did not tell me. I presented that question to him in an E-mail this morning. The Dr. told me he had seen this condition in about 10 out of a 1000 surgeries.
The surgical clip is to be removed by going up my urethra and pulling it out. I am told I will have to have a catheter in place for several days and that my incontinence may get worse.
Just a warning that if you have had a proctectomy be aware that this could happen. If pending a proctectomy question your surgeon about the possibility of a surgical clip creating issues.
If you have had this occur and have had the clip removed I would appreciate hearing what were your experiences.

Another reason to use radiation therapy rather than surgery to remove prostate. How big are the surgical clips? I had similar surgery to remove kidney stone/ They can be ultrasounded or lasered to break down, if not surgically removed. Stones over 7-8 mm cannot pass and therefore have to be broken into pieces.
I was not able to accurately judge the size but I am guessing it was 1/2 to 3/4 inch long and less than a quarter inch wide. I will ask the surgeon to save it for me.
I understand that clips are used in nerve sparring surgery, as to not cauterize, and damage the nerves. They are to be removed after bleeding stops, and before closing.
Note: Any doctor who performs removing the surgical clip by going up your urethra and pulling it out has to extra cautious and gentle. Double emphasize that to the doctor!!!
Age (and ignorance) has it's disadvantages........
FYI I had a Doctor who placed my in office "regular stent" too high in my urinary tract. She had to have it removed in a hospital setting where she fucked up my urethra and caused my total incontinence. So my advice again is make sure your doctor knows his shit.....Emphasize your concern regarding the delicate procedure.
