Will Lupron Shrink Prostate

Want to start Brachytherapy Boost but prostate is currently to large. Two months on Casadex has improved urine flow which is a positive for reduced prostate so Dr wants to try 3 month Lupron injection.

Anyone have similar experience trying to reduce prostate size?

They gave my husband the 3 month Lupron injection to shrink the tumor. So it seems logical that if the tumor(s) were large enough inside the prostate that the prostate might shrink as well.

mjbach, nothing about this whole treatment process is logical but I hope you are spot on about shrinking the entire prostate.

In the ASCENDE-RT clinical trial of brachy boost therapy, they started all men with 9 months of ADT to shrink their prostates. There is a kind of brachytherapy called "high dose rate" that can be done on large prostates, but practitioners may be hard to find.

Tall-Allen, thanks for the info. Dr will do high dose rate but only if prostate size shrinks.

Dear Bad: I've been on Casodex monotherapy for about 90 days and it hasn't improved flow, urge incontinence or nocturia at all. These are my only symptoms. (Don't stand between and the men's room when I have to go.) It has lowered my PSA and alkaline phosphatase nicely. So I suspect my prostate has not shrunk at all.

Try Avodart. Good for shrinking prostate when used on label. Good for shrinking tumors off label. Dr. Myers always added avodart to is PCA cocktail.
