This is one of those things I looked into recently (because my SHBG is/was slightly above normal range, T is good, but Free T is low as I "recover" from 15 months ADT). My thought, based on some research (not a deep dive by comparison to some other issues) and a conversation with my ND (not MO), is that in the context of the entire hormone discussion, SHBG falls into the ambiguous area and, if anything, is a minor player in the scheme of things. T and DHT are the big ones! Estrogen/estradiol, prolactin, progesterone, etc... all figure into the mix in different ways. The complexity of the endocrine system is way above my pay grade, but my conclusion is that we can't possibly control everything, nor should we..... but the general sense I get at this point when it comes to hormones is keep DHT low, control estrogen metabolites, and add D3 and melatonin for a variety of reasons.
All that being said ..... back to SHBG .... I did get some stinging nettle extract because I was disappointed that my Free T was low. My ND said give it time as the body needs to regain some semblance of balance after being slammed by ADT, but stinging nettle might help.
Sorry for the rambling response. I am sitting in a conference listening to the keynote speaker drone on. It must be contagious.
Thanks. Good to know and I also re-read you previous post that myriammole referenced. Very interesting.
I really should retest to see how hormones have changed since testing a month ago as I “recover” from the ADT. I feel free T must be a little better now. Still curious about SHBG. I may get the Avena Sativa after giving my wife fair warning 😳 In meantime I am trying some stinging nettle.
