Casodex

I did not have orchiectomy after consulting with the urologist about it. He suggested going back on Lupron. He started me on casodex until I go back to the oncologist for Lupron. I was 3.7 and after 10 days I went Dow to 2.04. PSA Since I have not had any real reactions to the casodex he suggests I continue with it for another month to see if PSA continues to drop. After my Eligard experience I will try and avoid injections for now. Will keep you posted.

He meaning my oncologist. After seeing the urologist 10 days later I saw my oncologist. We are watching PSA while on casodex only for now. Sorry for the confusion.

Consider taking 10 mg tamoxifen daily to prevent breast tenderness and enlargement.

Any side effects to taking tamoxifen for those on Lupron and Casodex ? Will it control the gynecomastia after having been on the combination for over 2 years ? Thanks

Check the full prescribing info - most of the side effects (like endometrial cancer risk) only apply to women taking it. They recommend taking 20 mg/day to reverse gynecomastia, but if has built up connective tissue, you may need cortisone shots or surgery to get rid of it. When Lupron is taken with Casodex, there usually isn't enough testosterone accumulated that would get metabolized to estrogen - but people vary.

Lupron and casodex work differently. Lupron works on the testicles and casodex works on Pca cells receptors. You could go on one of them and you would have the other as a fallback.

Lupron works on all androgen receptors like the adrenal medullas.

You could get an Axumin scan to see if metastases are causing the rise of the PSA value.

"beats the hell out of the misery of Eligard"

I do not understand what you mean by this. The Vantas implant reduces your testosterone and therefore causes the same side effects as Lupron etc. The difference is that it works for over 12 months and you do not get injections every three months.

Like magnus said, you could go on one and save the other. I did this and got 7+ years on casodex and avodart. My paradigm is to get as much out of these antiandrogens using agonist sparingly to avoid to avoid castration and possible castration resistance. Rocco

I was told that Casodex is taken before Lupron to prevent tumor flare.

I was told it would stop a Testosterone flair.
