PCA ductal with bladder, bone, lung and Lymph-nodes mets G-9. PSA have been 0.014 for months but I am starting to get sick in afternoon and evenings has anyone else ever gotten this?...I mean..I feel like SH%T. My wife thinks its me having withdrawals from my Oxycodone 5 mg that I take every evening. Maybe she is right?...

I had symtoms like this at diagnosis and before treatment. I had fever and started taking Ibuprofen which helped my pain and reduced the fever, but then I had really bad night sweats. I would feel best in the morning and then slowly get worse during the day. What do your blood counts look like?

DeanNelson profile image
DeanNelson in reply to

They keep getting lower and lower

Done on 4/22/2019

WBC4.24 Low

RBC4.06 Low

HGB12.9 Low

HCT37.1 Low

in reply toDeanNelson

My counts were down when I had the flu a few weeks ago. I felt really bad, so bad that I went in. I had very rapid pulse, dehydration and blood numbers almost the same as yours except my WBCs were 6.5. They checked out my lungs to make sure there wasn't pneumonia.

Hard to speculate about something like that. Have you gone in to have to checked out?

Not yet, I think I will in morning....

I am so afraid to go to doctors/hospital. I felt like this when I was diagnosed last May 8th. I had the night sweats from hell also, but those really haven't ever gone away since I was diagnosed. I sleep on towels now.

Dammit I am scared

in reply toDeanNelson

I can definitely relate to that. Every time something happens, it takes me back to the trauma of diagnosis.

Your PSA is very low so that's a really good indication, unlikely to have progression at that PSA. My doctor said it's about 1:1000 at that level.

DeanNelson profile image
DeanNelson in reply to

Thats what scares me.....

My MO at MDA said PSA will not tell me when I have progression, my highest PSA ever was 3.6. I have ductal adenocarcinoma with cancer in all 12 cores of the biopsies and in my lymph-nodes.

in reply toDeanNelson

After reading what TA said about PCa mets in the lungs, I'm wondering if that's what was going on with me. I had a lot of nodules in my lungs at diagnosis at the same time as I was having the really bad night sweats. I also had high inflammation markers (ESR and C-reactive protein) They went away, either with ADT and/or chemotherapy. The night sweats also went away, but I don't know for sure the two are related.

Have any tumor markers been established for your Ductal Adenocarcinoma? Apparently that's difficult to do with this cancer.

reading your counts looks like I'm reading mine ( mine a little lower generally ). like you mine are slowly marching off the bottom of the green zone again ( like they were before I started treatment but not as bad ). on the plus side your PSA is much lower than mine ... mine is 0.2. your PSA is really low , so your PCa activity should be low as well, thats a good thing. please read my response to your opiate meds I posted a little earlier. I've got mets on my mets , my Onc Doc doesn't even want me to see my scans and even brought the Hospice nurse in to consult with my wife and myself on my very first Onc Doc visit. have you had to visit with the Hospice people yet ?? hey ... I'm still here and I'm still fighting hard...I'm not giving in anytime soon and neither should you. seems like - sounds like I'm a little ahead of you here, and I'm planning on hang'in in there for another couple of years at least. plus there are numerous new great treatments in the pipeline that can keep us all alive a little longer too. both our glasses are STILL half full , we've got months and maybe several years left in the tank. try to spend some quality time with your loved ones and do the things on your bucket list while you are still ambulatory. hang in there , you got this..... and you've got us if you need someone to talk to in the same boat as you !!!! best wishes

Your symptoms may be due to the cancer. Ductal is difficult to track with PSA because it does not put out much PSA. There's a simple way to see if it's oxycodone withdrawal - take a pill. If the symptoms disappear, maybe it's that (but I doubt it). When you can get it, I hope marijuana will help.

DeanNelson profile image
DeanNelson in reply toTall_Allen

TA took 5mg oxycodone like 65 minutes ago, feel the same...

dammit,I was feeling so good.. I didn't think this would happen so fast, It spread to my lungs weeks ago.

Cancer in the lungs can cause flu-like symptoms. It causes inflammatory cytokines just as flu does,

I'm unaware of you're treatment and I don't believe we have a similar diagnosis. But yes, when I run myself down and don't take time often to rest appropriately, I get pain and flu-like symptoms. Pain killers help and I don't think addiction is the cause (I measure those pills out carefully). Getting a lot of rest seems to do the trick for me. Hope it helps for you.

Dean, you need to take a road trip, Because of your lung situation, I would suggest edibles in the Indica range.

I would suspect the oxycodone is the cause. I have only taken it for dental work or fractures but when I do I often throw up.

If you live close to a major research hospital you may want to establish an OC there. I am in GA and right now in great shape. I am treated at MD Anderson in Texas and Duke in Durham...both a good distance away...I do have access to Emory Atlanta. My point is if I get in trouble later along this journey, is working out logistics. If I wake up in the middle of the night in trouble I would have to rely on immediate care in Macon Ga. Fearing hospitals is natural...always have your records with you....if you need to go ,,,,go..find out who the best is in your area....then get stable and to a real cancer facility not a group of guys who try to convince you they have your back...They may be ok but who knows...I have lost two friends here because they said Texas was too far...and they had financial resources to go...I know I am not commenting on your condition but logistics is important...Having a second opinion from a known research hospital also gets you set up for options if you need them...It seems to me options are what treating this challenge is what it is all about...Carry on my friend ....Grounded Sky King

just my 2cents worth. I used to be a licensed grower here in California and I have a selection of cannabis products that would likely make a Medical Marijuana Clinic blush.

Cannabis is OTC here in the state now and Medical cards still exist and are easy to get ( medical grade flowers and products are the best but most expensive )

I also think that some strains of cannabis might help as well but some could make it worse. accidentally using too much or using some scary " couch lock " strain could even make it much worse. if you are already panicky and ingest or smoke a " scary " strain, well ......... things could get a whole lot worse ay ahay ahaya ahah . having to hide in a closet for 9 hours waiting for it wear off and come down isn't beneficial to any form of panicky mental state you had before you started. so many strains are wrongly characterized these days ( misrepresented ) that it's generally hard to really know what you have. basically I believe that you would have to experiment with what you brought to the dance a bit first to become familiar with how it impacts you and you would likely need several different species to try to get what you actually wanted to have. many strains can have quite different effects. it's good to know your product well before using it overall. just my thoughts .

Hey Dean .... you didn't say what your meds are and that matters but I can say I'm rather experienced in opiates. I'm in the same or worse boat as you are in my blood work. it was actually a little worse but rebounded back up some. still a little worse than you tho. remember , or try to when that " monkey " on your back is kicking you in whats left of your nuts , that everyone ( absolutely everyone ) develops a resistance - tolerance to opiates when they take them regularly. when you first start taking them this tolerance can take months or longer to build, but after you take them over and over , that tolerance can build in as little as 7 - 10 or 5- 7 days .. even less depending upon how much of a break you take from them. ( everyone is different in this respect, tolerance can come fast ) " ALWAYS " give yourself at least 6 - 8 days being clean ( off the opiates ) before you make ANY serious decisions or have ANY panicky thoughts about anything. never ever trust your emotions ( or judgement about emotions - quality of life ) until you have been clean for a week or two. you cannot - must not trust your mental self while anywhere near those. yea things can be bad and many or even most of us here are up to our armpits in bad - awful but opiates can make that seem 1000 times worse when you reach tolerance levels and the monkey on your back starts to get irritated. I've panicked so hard from opiates sometimes, I once drove myself to the E.R. thinking this was it ( it wasn't of course ). over and over I've been in that near panic state where I'm super critical and seems like everything is awful for me. dunno about anyone else here , I'm on Lupron - Xtandi - Zometa , but I get sick part of the day too. seems like I'm just sick all the time and it never seems to get better. I get REAL fed up with being sick a lot. what I do is take opiates for a few days " knowing " that what is happening to you is going to happen to me pretty soon and I start tapering off and quit for a week or two to clear up my head and reestablish my mental qualities from the opiate damage. herze the meat : tell your doctor you want to start cycling on and off the opiates ( to manage tolerance ) and that you want - need some Xanax ( the small ones work fine, just ask for a few for now to see how much this helps you ) to help you deal with the panicky issues when you drop off the meds. make sure he knows how important this is to you, even overstate it if necessary. when you start off the meds or tolerance automatically kicks in the mental issues , take a xanax now and then until the mental stuff disappears. usually a day or two. the xanax should magically make that awful limbo state you are experiencing disappear or nearly so. hang in there big guy , lots of guys here in the same boat and we got your back. we've all got the elephant in the room and many - most of us also have that GD monkey as well. it's a common part of this weird trip we are on. try not to let yourself suffer from the opiate issues , get some xanax ( or any of the benzos ) and get yourself back to centered. you've got enough on your plate, you don't need the opiate anguish on top of everything else. just my opinion from what this sounds like to me ... check everything with your doctor ... feel free to quote me if needed.

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply toKaliber

also: stacking your opiate meds ..... taking more to make the mental stuff go away ( getting well for a short period ) can help and works for most people ... BUT .... " never " take this approach. if you are taking vike 5s , stick with that and don't start making it 10s or start taking your morphine or dilaudid break thru meds unnecessarily to get rid of the mental stuff. while yes that may work temporarily, eventually you'll be right back in the same boat but now that curb you fell off with the 5s has become a high ( pun ) cliff and the impact at the bottom is much worse ... MUCH. you absolutely do NOT want to experience that if you can avoid it. think this is bad , believe me it can be zillions times worse if you stack them. just some fyi big guy. take care and be careful. you got this .....

this for the two that asked : what I'm addressing here is called " tolerance " to medications , especially opiates ... where the human body builds up a resistance to the medications and it takes more to get the same job done. all humans have this trait. I'm not in any way addressing " addiction " which is a mental state that some people can develop where they cannot stop using the drug for mental reasons not tolerance reasons. most people can lay down the opiates and move away from them ... some cannot. people like us are of necessity taking powerful opiates to manage the large amounts of pain we can experience. opiates like most other drugs have serious side effects one has to manage. tolerance and withdrawal being one of them. the longer one takes opiates for pain the more difficult it is to manage the tricky balance between relief from our large amounts of pain and developing strong tolerance and needing to " cycle " off the opiates to restore our building tolerance back to lower levels ( to make our normal levels of meds work again ) . when you're cycled off the pain meds you have to experience the pain again ... also when your tolerance builds up enough you also start experiencing the pain again as well. addiction is another different - difficult issue to deal with and as always ... ALL of this should be run by your medical providers to have them supervise all aspects of your treatments ... especially opiates - addiction. pretty much all of us here are running on rather limited remaining life span ... it's an interesting issue dealing with the balance between people that are going to pass away fairly soon - pain management - and opiate side effect problems ( especially the mental anguish experienced when tolerance builds up enough to kill off the opiate pain relief ) that everyone that has to use opiates has to deal with. opiates can and will eventually screw up the emotional state of nearly everyone that uses them ... opiate use exposes some patients to the risk of addiction ... and opiates are the only way to manage the heavy serious pain that nearly all of us will experience. people with terminal cancer are pretty much unregulated by the government because QOL becomes the main interest and all the other opiates side effects become secondary. they do exist never the less and all of us have to manage those side effects to keep up our QOL up as well. it's tricky and complicated and not easily addressed in this type of forum. IMHO it's FAR better to live your last times as close to pain free as possible and have the best QOL as you move on ( croak ) ....... that, for me, is the most important aspect of any - all of this.

with 32 years in the hard core Biomedical Engineering world , I have a whopping lot of experience ( nam era soldiers in Military hospitals, decades of V.A. patient contact ) ... add that on top being a '60s Haight - Telegraph Ave Freak and lots to draw on there. I never knew him personally but I was very familiar with ole T Leary ( Owsley , Kesey , numerous famous bands when they were house and warm up bands before they became famous ) ... he was quite the hanger on-er and hung around back stage in places like the Filmore and Titicult Follies ( Berleley Night club ) where I was one of the house special effects guys for their Headlites light show. I been rode hard and put away wet lots ! yaahaya ha ya ahaah probably most of us here have piles of the most hard core opiates available , right in the medicine cabinet ( Morphine, hydromorphone, Fentanyl ) . lots of this way more powerful than stuff back in the day. and guys like us probably take a lot of them from time to time ... or all the time. sadly , or maybe it's a good thing, few if any of them know much about using and dealing with their powerful attributes and side effects. those drugs are well capable of amping WAY up the fear and sadness issues guys like us have naturally without them ... plus making their lives miserable. close contact with their medical care team is probably their best avenue ... but most of those are less than experienced as well ( wet behind the ears ) and sometimes the structured " medical practice way " isn't the most humane or most desirable way ( to deal with them ) as well. just my 2 cents worth , I try to add something here and there ... but this is a subject that almost no one here wants to hear about or talk about ....and sprinkle on a heavy layer of social stigma ... and presto ... well you get the idea. yikes .........
