Had a TURP one year ago and just had my second last week. Ugh! New doc said old doc should have done radiation treatment after the first TURP to prevent the prostrate from spreading and blocking the urethra again.

The alternative to radiation would be surgery as your MO had suggested.
Now they tell you... WTF ?
Amen.
I empathize. Went through 2 TURPs and the frequent urination just got worse. Changed surgeons. New guy said previous dummies totally missed the problem. They didn't do a Bladder Neck Procedure which clears out and widens the entrance to the urethra from the bladder. While doing TURP #3, he spotted the bladder neck problem and did that extra "super quick" surgery right away. No extra charge to me. So my answer to you is...
GET A NEW SURGEON!
Good luck.
Have you investigated the new UroLift procedure? It might correct this problem. The company can be located online and offers a physician referral process based on your zip.The TURP is going to become obsolete.
At my insistence I had a TURP in Nov. 2017 after 160 days with a Foley catheter. The docs didn't care about my catheter - not their problem - but I sure as hell did. Normal recovery period - the urethra will take longer to recover after 160 days of catheterization and nothing happens rapidly when you're 75. Took about a month to recover and zero problem since. Get a good surgeon.
Stegosaurus37 hit the nail right on the head: **Get a good surgeon**.
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
