"Taking vitamin D supplements could slow or even reverse the progression of less aggressive, or low-grade, prostate tumors"

"Hollis wondered if giving these men vitamin D supplements during the 60-day waiting period would affect their prostate cancer. His previous research had shown that when men with low-grade prostate cancer took vitamin D supplements for a year, 55 percent of them showed decreased Gleason scores or even complete disappearance of their tumors compared to their biopsies a year before (J. Clin. Endocrinol. Metab., 2012, DOI: 10.1210/jc.2012-1451).

In a new randomized, controlled clinical trial, his team assigned 37 men undergoing elective prostatectomies either to a group that received 4,000 IU of vitamin D per day, or to a placebo group that didn't receive vitamin D. The men's prostate glands were removed and examined 60 days later."

That "new" pilot trial from 2015 has been replaced by several larger more reliable randomized clinical trials:

Randomized.... big stuff for inanimate objects of study... not for objects that have diet variations, and other strong environmental facts (which are put in the same basket in randomized studies.

Old mechanistic medical school with low adherence to reality (direct cause effect, active principle as the key to "heal") ... doctors, please understand statistics before trying to use it!

With this logic secondary (or even third order) effects (that are of primary importance most of the times IN SCIENCE) are not correctly (or even) considered.... or we have more variables than equations (infinite possibilities)....! Than, make hypothesis to make things having a sense...This is medicine today: trial and error! NO realistic model behind (apart of the very good mice models). So, before mentioning statistical best practices, please try to understand if this is applicable.

Me? I prefer the very good mice models e.g. Minnie et. al.

Yes. Minnie mouse doing her famous hula dance. Sadly neither Minnie nor Mickey or any of their relatives live anywhere near my house. Lizards, large grasshoppers and the occasional bird are also prey for the serial killer cats that lounge on my backyard savanna.

Dear J-o-h-n: you're fully right... but, as physicist sometimes I remain horrified with some abuses or absence of knowledge (or interest?) of some "doctors" or "specialists" about the utilization and interpretation of some concepts... Apologize me for this... also for being my first "contribution" here. I'm in the same situation as most of you (GS9 - T3bN1M1) diagnosed 1 year ago and till now only under "alternative" medicine. Performed several PSMA and RMI to check the evolution and it seems that till now the all is stable. Mention this only to "present" myself fellows!

Greetings to the farm team puxi.... With a little more experience we can send you up to the majors. I know you've probably have heard this before but I wish to reiterate "Pca is a slow growing disease" so take a very deep breath and start living.

I noticed you mentioned immunotherapy in a different post. I have some experience with immunotherapy because besides my Pca I also have stage IV melanoma lung cancer. I am fighting that with Keytruda and it's working. I fight both maladies with humor and live and laugh as much as I can. Since you have a picture of a yacht you must always be thinking that "Air resistance is a drag".

So sit back, relax and ride the waves.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

I had PCa for 11 years and every day I took Vitamin D 2000 IU . Now my cancer is gone and my Vitamin D levels were still very low, so the doctor is giving me a prescription for Vitamin D 50,000 units twice a week. What I did was listen to my doctor, do what is told, and let him figure out what I should or should not take. That was all I had to do was worry about the side effects of which there were plenty! I never expected the doctor to call me on Christmas Eve and tell me the cancer was gone! I wish you well and remember to just keep truckin'.
