Veteran looking for some correct guidance and help !

Hello,

I had Prostate Surgery in 2015 at my local VA Hospital. Gleason score of 3+ 4 =7. However, they said all of the Prostate was not removed because of infection/soft Prostate. 3/4 months later Radiation of 42 treatments. I decided to go Medicare for better care than the VA.

I have found out my PSA has returned at last blood test was at .0235, which means the Cancer has returned. Not currently on any meds for this. I have been seeing a Urology Doctor which has not worked out to well. He wants 4/5 tests & this on, and he is up in age.

I am local for some direction or someone who has dealt with this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated and helpful. My local Doctor suggested I go back to the VA and the next step is a Chemical Castration. I don't trust the VA anymore & looking for alternatives and suggestion's.

Your PSA is still very low. Consider switching to a conventional PSA test.

I started my cancer treatments in 2010 at a private hospital. At first they would call me all the time about my cancer until all the surgeries and radiation was done. Then I had to fight with the doctors to check my PSA. Apparently my insurance was making the calls on my cancer and limited my testing. At the time Obamacare came out I was told I had some VA benefits and had to use them. This was about the time the VA was getting some bad Press, I was very reluctant to switch. To my surprise I was treated very well at the VA. They started call me to come in and get tested or be seen. They had no problem checking my blood (PSA). The doctor was giving me plenty of scans. However, the VA here beat those Doctors badly, they never had enough help. Finally the last doctor left the VA. I was transferred to the local university cancer center for treatment. I’m glad they moved me to the cancer center. I’m being seen by a younger doctor and the center has better resources. All the tests this website talks about I’m now getting. The news talks about the VA outsourcing some of its services. Check to see if your VA is doing that now. Good Luck

Mine is 0.122 and I am considered in remission. ADT is next logical next step to hold it down. VA is supplying my Xtandi ($12,000/mo.) for $11 and I am seeing my local MO for treatment under Veterans Choice program. Don't need standard ADT acct. Orchiectomy over a year ago.
