Unsure of prostate cancer

I have a PSA of 65-70, started CBD oil last July and immune-enhancing meds from a naturopath. MRI in July 2018 showed lesions. Lesions appeared to have shrunk when I had exam in October. Bone scan was negative. Recently, I went for physical exam/check up, and one small lesion is back. Has not been confirmed with MRI, yet. At 88 years old, I'm not interested in radical and traditional cancer treatments. I am interested in pursuing natural methods to maintain health and without harm to kidneys.

Hello taylorcraft,

I agree with you that, at 88 years, your situation is different from younger men and harsh treatments may not be worthwhile. However, not all of the traditional treatments are harsh. Some of the less effective ones can be quite mild but still give you some benefit.

You might want to get your testosterone level checked. It goes down with age but even at 88 it's probably high enough that controlling it might slow the growth of the cancer. There are some fairly mild drugs that can reduce the uptake of testosterone in tumor cells (Casodex, generic name = bicalutamide) or reduce the rate of conversion to dihydrotestosterone (Avodart, generic name = dutasteride). The Casodex is available in lower and higher doses and maybe a lower dose is all you need. There are also estrogenic drugs and even a stronger drug like Lupron might not bother you very much. You can get a 30 day injection that will enable you try it and quit after a month if it bothers you. You'll need to see a medical oncologist who knows a lot about prostate cancer to explore these options.

Here's a publication from the National Cancer Institute about diet and supplements:

cancer.gov/about-cancer/tre...

I don't know whether the CBD oil is likely to help or what it's side effects are. As for the immune boosting naturopathic supplements, as long as they don't do harm, I don't expect you need to stop them. However, I don't expect them to do anything at all to your cancer. Our immune systems have evolved to attack foreign substances like bacteria and viruses. Tumor cells are not foreign. They are our own cells. It seems to require special treatment to sensitize the immune system to attack them (e.g. Provenge), or to turn off cell defenses against them (e.g. Keytruda). It appears that they only work for some patients, not for the majority. But I have to add that I'm not an expert and I can certainly be wrong.

Congratulations on reaching 88. May you have many more years.

Best of luck.

Alan

Better living through modern chemistry, my friend.

Since you are on natural medicine. did you think about adding THC oil, maybe a 2:1 ratio CBD:THC?

If you are interested in homeopathy, take a look at the Banerji protocols for cancer. I started in on 1/23/19. It is simple, cheap and easy to do. Banerji family has had a clinic in the poorest part of Kolkata India for 150 years. They treat over 100 cancer patients each day. They have worked with MD Anderson clinic in Texas for studies.
