My father was diagnosed in April of 2021 with advanced prostate cancer (psa of 6491 and a very enlarged prostate of 158cc) after receiving only eligard injection every 6 months his PSA dropped as of yesterday to 0.78 .He has on a foley catheter since April ‘21 and has it changed every 1-2 months . He had no problem while been on catheter only slight muscle spasms before urinating. His urologist decided today to move the catheter , he was able to urinate on his own after a couple of hours but because he had some pain during urination decided to get two advils . After getting the advils he has not been able to urinate. I hoped after having such a dramatic PSA he would been able to have a normal flow. I’m confused now.

After removal on foley catheter...improvement in urine outflow in natural manner.. starts in zig zag way...only to reach smooth flow like before catheter eventually. This is because the bladder smooth muscles are re-learning how to function again. Most likely it will get better in next 2 to 4 weeks. The dramatic fall of PSA from 6491 to 0.78 is a very positive sign.
Seeing his doctor is good idea. If spontaneous urination does not happen, he may have to do Intermittent catheter 2 to 3 times a day to empty the bladder... until his bladder regains full normal functioning. Rest assured.. Bladder does work well again after foley..just a matter of time.
Thank you Nalakrats,I should have purchased the dandelion roots before the catheter removal.
Hurts nothing to try a Sitz Bath. Relaxes. Just lay back and pee away in the bath. This is a trick that I learned from an Urological RN. Verified with my WWII Army RN mother. Said it was old time and better than a catheter.
Nal, thanks so much. My partner had a serious infection that maybe had injured the bladder. The 'void challenge' has failed three times. But the infection is now cleared. Also had a PSA drop from 165 down to 35. Why, not totally sure, but maybe Orgovyx. Before a turp, trying to resuscitate the bladder makes a lot more sense to me. Sitz bath and dandelion... let's see, combined with self-cath to try to ride though experimenting without a cath. Again thanks!
The GFR came out of the blue for me. How does the GFR relate to advanced prostate cancer, and how do you get it tested? Dr.'s script to lab with urine? And is it a way to get an early heads up on whether the cancer has got some special havoc in store, ie, by screwing with the kidney filtration?
