If you are taking 10 mg of prednisone talk with your doctor to reduce the dose to 5 mg and see what happens. If you start having hypertension, fluid retention and/or hypokalemia they could increase the dose of prednisone back to 10 mg or you could discuss with your doctor the possibility of keeping the 5 mg of prednisone and add eplenerone (Inspra) an aldosterone receptor blocker.
Then you should discuss with your doctor about the possibility of trying anti acid medicines (prednisone increases stomach acid production) or anti nausea medication.
You could also ask for a prescrition to zofran or compazine or both to combat nausea. Zofran comes in a dissolvable pill that goes under tongue (sublingual dosage)
I can't help you with the nausea, but I can share that I eliminated about 90% of the hot flashes and sweats associated with Lupron by taking the generic antidepressant venlafaxine once a day. My urologist suggested this after the over-the-counter supplement "black cohash" didn't work for me. It's been a blessing as I am still working full-time and folks have stopped thinking I am having a heart attack every hour or so as those sweats were so severe. [Be aware that, once on this med plan to stay on it or follow a doctor's advice as it is very difficult to come off of.]
hot flashes is commen just relax the lupron/eliguard is either 3 months shot or 6 months go with the 6 is where i'm going next time to me the shot is painful its suppose to dissolve within your body if it doesn't hold down the psa then i will go back to the 3 months
I have been on Lupron, Xtandi and Avodart for nearly 5 years for my G9, Stage 4 PCa. I have nausea that comes and goes a few times a week. I think it’s just par for the course and is a side effect of several ADT meds. Your doc should be able to give you something to help alleviate this if it is troublesome.
As for hot flashes I used to get them pretty severe and just about hourly, they were accompanied by a “sickish” feeling. Dr. Snuffy Myers prescribed estradiol patches which helped tremendously, I’ve been using them for a few years. Now I get them a few times a week but nothing close to what they were like when I started this journey.
I am back on Zytiga and prednisone after chemo. My psa has been rising since the last dose of chemo. Continuing on lupron. My stomach was queasy while on chemo and hasn’t got much better in the month I’ve been off. Have been taking prednisone 5mg s twice a day. I’ll talk to my oncologist about cutting back to one and see if that helps.
My husband has also stopped chemo and during the chemo he often felt nauseous but never threw up. Now twice since stopping he has thrown in the last week. Still on Suprefact which is the 3 month hormone depot injection and going onto Zytiga next week. Very strange to be throwing up now.
