I understand that there is research being conducted on the use of modified adenoviruses for use as oncolytic virus therapy for prostate cancer. The FDA has approved the product T-VEC which is a modified herpes virus for unoperable melanoma. This is a hot field of research and from what I have read the virus not only kills prostate cancer cells but also triggers an immune response to kill cancer cells. Side effects are said to minimal.
Does anyone on this site know where this is either used in clinical practice or in clinical trials?

Virotherapy is being developed to be a novel therapy for cancers, which uses oncotropic and oncolytic viruses with their abilities to find and destroy malignant cells in the body. As oncolytic viruses are a relatively new class of anti-cancer immunotherapy agents, several important barriers still exist on the road to the use of oncolytic viruses for PCa therapy.
Tall_Allen, I have read the Oncolytic Virus therapy article of 2009 and the Dec. 2017 press release from Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. Yes unfortunately the Reo virus used in the phase 2 trial did not work. However, as the 2009 article points out there are many other viruses under study which show promise for prostate cancer and for which additional trials may be forthcoming. I don't think Oncolytics Biotech has abandoned oncolytic virus therapy for Prostate cancer for in their conclusion, We believe the the development of oncolytic virus therapy will lead to a promising therapeutic option for prostate cancer in the near future. That future may not be quite as near as they thought in 2009, but additional testing may reveal the optimal virus to be used alone or inconjunction with other chemo or immuno therapies.
