Time for radiotherapy

Diagnosed 9 months ago, age 43, stg 4 gleeson 9, taking Zytiga, pred and firmagon. PSA from 68 now 27. I've been doing ok, bearable side effects

Both of my oncologists are now supporting radiotherapy to the prostate, this will be 6x 20min sessions over 6 weeks. Have been told little side effects, and will increase survival 6months will wiping out the cancer in the prostate. I believe this is the new treatment/piece of kit, which is better at targeting and shows fewer side effects.

Any advice or experience on whether to go for this.

Thanks

I had it in 2010 - it was a piece of cake for me. Some irritative urinary side effects about 10 days after treatment ended, lasting for 2 weeks. Some tenesmus, a little blood on the TP, and I learned to never trust a fart. No erectile dysfunction.

Good to know. I believe it is the new SABR radiotherapy, hence 6 sessions.

I guess it is new in Canada. I had it every other day for 5 treatments.

Sorry- I missed the country by several thousand miles. They've been doing it at Royal Marsden Hospital, I know.

As I love a nice piece of cake way too much....I try to not call any of these treatments by that name. However, so far radiation has been one of the easiest!

All the best and good luck for GREAT results!

My Gleason was 4+3 my PSA went from 6.1 to 13.1 in about 18 months consultant wanted to perform radical surgery when it raised from 6.1 to 8.1 he would have wet himself if he knew it went up to 13.1 at this point l went on to a Chinese medicine mixture it helped a great deal with me on the toilet runs but not enough to kill the cancer so l gave the proton clinic in Prague a visit when l gave them my details dr kubes was not worried that my PSA was 13.1 with the information l gave them l gave the proton therapy clinic a visit l spent about 4 days having blood tests and mri scan came home and their team diagnosed a plan for my treatment and l returned a week later for treatment which lasted 10 days but only 5days of treatment which took about 30 mins each day but the proton only lasted 2 mins ( 1min one side 1min on the other side) after that the rest of the day l was sightseeing with minable side affects unlike radiotherapy with bad in continence ( my prostate was 99% cancer ) consider Prague if your funds will allow or medical insurance you may have l am very happy lwent and didn’t listen to my consultant look them up on u tube l pray they can help you the way they helped me they are so polite and helpful they believe in cure not treatment

To EZtiger:

I had 39 sessions (MSKcc) in the microwave oven (5 business days a week for 8 weeks minus 1 day) with NO immediate side effects. However a couple of years later it was discovered that my left urinary tract was "fried". So I have a in and out stent in my urinary tract (no biggie) every 3 months. So be aware and take care.

Good Luck and Good Health.
