Loss of taste

Just completed round three of chemo. Side effects manageable but everything tastes like cardboard. Has anyone heard of a marajuana oil that improves taste and appetite?

hmmm....I never lost my appetite. However, some things did taste better than others. I found the "greasier" the better(i.e. hamburgers, French fries, chips)

I used Cannabis oil early on and it DID seem to enhance my appetite, but it also made me feel a bit "spacey". I was actually hoping to lose a few pounds during chemo, but instead, I gained a few. Everyone is different. I now use Cannabis oil only at bedtime if I think I'm going to have a hard time sleeping. It's great for that (for me).

Thanks. I’ve dropped 30 pounds. Agree that greasy salty things do taste better

Medical marajuana is legal in my state, therefore a few puffs turns me into an eating machine. As a bonus, the music sounds much better.

My taste went for a while especially during the first 10 days after a chemo infusion. I took cannabis oil for about a month to relieve lower back pain and wean me off painkillers. However, it had no effect on my taste. I think it may have enhanced my appetite generally, which anyway remained good throughout. I particularly enjoyed ginger drinks throughout the chemo process. Unfortunately, I picked up weight steadily during chemo despite eating very carefully - 10kg over 5 months although a good deal of this was a consequence of fluid retention which is only now (3 months later) receding.

I’ve lost 30 pounds which was welcome. Not sure if cannabis oil is available in Florida but I’ll check it out. Thanks

Cannabis oil is certainly available here in FL. I buy my CBD from out of state - perfectly legal to ship to me. As far as your taste buds go, try a mint or some mouthwash sprayed in your mouth. I find it refreshes the taste buds. As far as regular THC and CBD go, there are hundreds of strains. Go to Leafly.com and do a search for Appetite and you will find dozens of good strains. It takes a while to get certified by the state here, but it happens eventually. You can then get your pot delivered to your door. Search Leafly for whatever effects you are looking for, then check those strains for effects you don't want. Then see if Trulieve has that strain. And good luck. I have done well with it, and find myself hungry at 2AM quite frequently. Not good for me - trying to lose weight. I just take another puff and go back to sleep. Vaping is great. Good luck!

My husband was the same. There was nothing really we found we could do. Using more spices than normal seemed to help a litte but not for very long. Thankfully, though, taste will come back once you have a break from Chemo! The cells reproduce quite fast!

Have they got you on prednisone, I found my taste buds went wacky, everything had a metallic taste. Only thing I could eat was potatoes and gravy with a little chicken. Oh and pink lemonade 😀😀😀 but it did pass and slowly got back to normal Fight the good Fight

I also drink lemonade with and after lunch. Coffee (very strong black Italian Roast for the most part) before lunch, beer with dinner, water after dinner. (I I share a beer with my wife :) )

I forgot about the metallic taste which was present between usually days 3 and 10 post chemo. It was not terribly unpleasant and disappeared by about day 10.

That’s encouraging. Hope I have the same experience. We are saving a lot on restaurants. No point dining out when you can’t taste anything.

Any MM with thc will give appitite. Not sure about restoring taste. I had one critical point in my treatment that i couldnt eat or drink . Things goes south quickly when you stop both. . Even my wifes gourmet cooking was rotten in my mouth in my mind. You need calories to regain strength.. I believe it will improve the farther you get from treatments with time.. Cardboard? Yuck! Maybe make smoothies.. ?? Good luck..

Unsalted peanuts worked for me. Gained weight during chemo.

Me too gained weight. I understand that the weight comes from the prednisone (slows the metabolism or something like that). I couldn't understand why I had picked up 2kg every time I weighed in for another infusion - and that in spite of very careful eating and working out in a swimming pool almost every day. Apparently, some or most of the gain is due to fluid retention (I picked up 10kg, going from about 102 to 112kg) . I could feel this 'gain' (swelling) on my stomach, backside, arms, face, legs, ankles. It has taken about 3 months to start disappearing.
