Lu-177 trial

I finished the trial today, but before they took blood. The treatment is easy and I had no side effects. Unfortunately after the first dose and the second my PSA rose another 100 points. This is just for people considering the trial to know it doesn't work for everybody.

PSA often rises immediately after many effective treatments because dead prostate cancer cells release their PSA into the serum.

I could buy that, but it's been a couple of weeks and the rise is consistent with my graph.

My husband’s PSA spiked after surgical removal of lung nodules but eventually dropped.

If the cells are "dead" how can they release PSA into the serum, or whatever? Doesn't make sense!

PSA is a protein in prostate and prostate cancer cells. When cells die, the pSA is released into the serum.

Thanks for the update. Regarding PSA, don't rush to the conclusions. Wait for some time, retest and see where it's heading. Most likely down and out. Looking forward to hearing this here. ;) Cheers!

Bill, where were you doing the trial? My father just got on the lu-177 trial in Nebraska with Dr. Nordquist. I know this may not be for everyone but keep your hopes up you never know! How many infusions did you receive? Escalated dose?

Grumpyswife profile image

I hope Bill posts more info but it sounds like he had two doses. Could that mean treatments?

wrando profile image
wrando in reply toGrumpyswife

yes...the second and last treatment came just after I received the PSA results.

It's the phase one trial done at Weill Cornell in NYC. I wish your dad the best.

They are combining two ligands.

Hi Daddysdaughter.. how many dose did your dad receive ? And what's the result of his PSA and Ga PSMA Scan after Lu177 ? What will be the next step ?

Many thanks

Hi Cladius, my father will receive his first dose on Friday. The trial is 4-6 doses. I will keep you all informed of the process beginning September 7th. 😃

When I had the Lu 177 treatment in Munich, they advised me to wait at least 5-6 weeks before measuring PSA or doing another Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT study.

Hi Bill.

I am sorry it hasn't worked, or it looks like it hasn't worked. I suppose, ultimately, only another scan can show you for sure whether it has worked or not. How many more rounds are you scheduled for? I would suggest do them and then have a scan. Perhaps the rise in PSA is not as important as you think... I wouldn't give up hope yet. What do the doctors say?

Mel.

Doctor saying something similar to what you have said. In my study there are only two doses and I had the second just before learning of the PSA jump...just this past Friday.

My PSA went up after I started chemo but then went down ,

Update...I'm going in for a follow up tomorrow. I've received my second and last dose last Friday. I experienced considerable fatigue and nausea (not vomiting) after this treatment unlike the first treatment. I will say that after the first treatment I was basically fetal suffering from a ripping kidney stone so maybe I just didn't notice the side effects the first time.

Sorry about kidney stone but hoping for good results for you.

Are you going to try to get additional dose elsewhere? Do they offer them? Do they send you elsewhere? I ask this because the German protocol is 4 doses (I did 4 with almost no side effects except tiredness and a bit of dry mouth that went away).

Thanks

wrando profile image
wrando in reply toFoster007

I think two doses are the protocol in this trial. The doses are about three times stronger than the German model. I still have labs and scans as follow ups so I have been thinking about your questions. I will ask them because they also have Actinium (Alpha) which I'll need to ask about.

How were your results?...too early for mine yet.

Daddysdaughter profile image
Daddysdaughter in reply towrando

Actinium 225 is apparently the better treatment because it breaks down and works like Lutetium and Radium .. i have been looking into that as well. But for now we are on the trial awaiting the first of 6 treatment with lu-177-617

wrando profile image
wrando in reply toDaddysdaughter

please keep me posted

Cladius profile image
Cladius in reply towrando

What's Actinium?

wrando profile image
wrando in reply toCladius

It's an alpha particle...more power, shorter range. The LU-177 is a beta particle

Daddysdaughter profile image
Daddysdaughter in reply towrando

I believe the particle actually breaks down and is similar to radium & Lutitium. It’s a difficult to gather/make that’s why there is so little use of it. But it’s up and coming in the treatment options. I think that university of Heidelberg Germany has used it and is testing it.

Hi Foster007

In Which hospital in Germany were you treated ? Doctor name ? Results of PSMA and SCAN after ? Side effects.

What's the plan now .?

Thank you

Cladius profile image
Cladius

I read about it.. yes . I couldn't find a place in Germany that uses Ac.
